I was in a wedding a few weeks ago and one of the other groomsman was an agent.
He represents a number of SEC players. He gave me some insight on a few things
One mentioned a WR who transferred from one Sec school to another, third transfer in three years. The receiver accounted for close to 30% of the offense last year and that school wanted to give him $500k NIL.
Receiver left for $700k from another school plus house, two cars, and travel for four family members to all games. Agent tried to get him to stay at school bc he had more upside staying for production in that offense.
He said they have no financial education and families are pushing for quick payday. Nothing new.
He mentioned that most schools prorate payments to help hinder transfers, but it gets muddy during portal season. He mentioned that he informed this player to bank all the NIL money and live off of the endorsement money, but the player went and bought cars, jewelry and gave his family a new house.
he mentioned most of the schools are not as flush with cash as we would think.
