NOAA Cuts

It’s 850 people.

And I don’t know. Neither do you. Neither does Elon Musk or his dork frat.

Blocker knows. The guy who I re-posted knows.

There is a ton of government waste. It should be eliminated in a manner that knocks out the wasteful aspects and preserves the parts that make this country great.

Setting the NWS and NOAA on fire is pure stupidity. We will pay a price that far exceeds the benefit.

10% of the total employees

AI Overview

A NOAA probationary period, as with most federal government positions, is one year long; meaning new hires will spend their first year on probationary status.

And I’m watching Channel 6 in Augusta for detailed weather analysis. Street-level tornado radar is a nice feature. We need it out here.

You think the guy that fired them knew if they were doing good work? That wasn’t even a consideration. That’s my point. I’m not emotional about my friend. He will be fine.

There’s a way to do this. This is not it. It’s an unpopular thing to say, but many of the costs that are getting cut produce benefits that we all rely on and take for granted.
So, what’s your plan Einstein? There’s a monumental problem staring you right in the face, and you’re bitching over employees of a grossly bloated Govt being laid off.

I love how lib board jockeys who aren’t involved at all, who still believe in the Russia hoax and still believe Covid came from bats at a wet market, and who still get their news from a biased, corrupt legacy media, are critiquing the smartest guy on the planet who is on the front line looking at this crap and is literally putting his body and money where is mouth is.

I get you guys suffer from severe TDS, and that you have to keep up appearances, but Jesus, your side supports Hamas, open borders, censorship, continuous war, higher taxes, men ion women’s sports (and bathrooms), and a Govt run by ppl like Biden, Kamala, Newsom, Bass, Hochul, Swalwell, Schiff, Schumer and Pelosi. Elon was your darling until he dared to think for himself and recognize he’s not marrying Trump, but instead recognizes the guy is competent and is a far better choice than the numbskulls on the Left.

Maybe it’s time you take a knee for a few mins, and acknowledge that the D party has moved SO far Left, it’s off the radar. Trump was a D 10 years ago and a large percentage of his Cabinet was D less than a year ago. You’re running ppl off with your crap.

It’s unfortunate that the NOOA guy compared their service to cup s of coffee. Yeah, a several cups to him, 300 cups to the military. Another 270 cups to pay interest. 400 cups for SS, Medicare, Medicaid. 20 cups for the Post office, 30 cups fot the IRS, 10 cups for the park service . . . .

Gotta start somewhere. We all knew this day was coming, and it takes someone like Trump, who is unafraid to piss off his own party to actually get the ball rolling. Even if you hate the guy beyond description, you gotta acknowledge he’s the right guy at the right moment, because nobody else has the stones or the push to do it.

What I don’t get is it’s totally oblivious to democrats. They never saw a dollar that they wouldn’t instantly spend or piss away

It’s all about feelings and virtue signaling, and not a damn thing else. None of them will take in an illegal, none of them will do away with their private security, and none of them will suit up and put their feet on the ground in Ukraine or Gaza.

its like building a house. Roughly 25 main steps. Never fails when I have a customer involved. “Well that’s just $3,000 more so I want it. This is only $5,000 more, let’s do it”. And at the end they freak out at what the house cost. Resale value little to no more than the spec I build next door for 40% less.

From a post made yesterday by Dr. Levi Cowan of Tropical Tidbits, which a lot of us use when the hurricanes start brewing:

I never publicly comment on political matters because they are usually irrelevant to my work of providing hurricane data and forecasts to people in my personal capacity. Today though, it is highly relevant, and as a member of the meteorological community, I am angry.

Planned or ongoing bulk workforce cuts would irreparably harm the National Weather Service, NOAA, and their scientists who save innumerable lives by warning people in advance of tornadoes, hurricanes, wildfires, tsunamis, blizzards, and other life-threatening hazards. Many of you reading this may knowingly or unknowingly be alive today because of their work, or know someone who is.

As a direct consequence of wounding the NWS and NOAA, the public would be less safe.

My personal mission to bring hurricane science, data, and forecasts to the public would not be possible without the weather observations, doppler radar stations, computer models, hurricane hunter aircraft, and weather satellites provided by NOAA and the NWS. Your favorite weather apps, TV meteorologists, and private weather companies would also be unable to function without this data or the civil servants who live and breathe it to synthesize it into public safety information.

All of these benefits cost each taxpayer the equivalent of a few cups of coffee per year, and surveys show most would be willing to pay much more. The American weather enterprise saves many, many times more money than it costs to run, making it one of the biggest bangs for your buck in the government. The impact of quality weather forecasts and infrastructure on society is multiplied many-fold by preventing economic disruptions, keeping public transportation efficient, and providing lead time to prepare for and mitigate disasters. Most importantly, it saves priceless lives.

Careful, long-term plans to streamline or reorient the weather enterprise in an evolving world are not bad, but *this plan* is insane. A feverish rush to take a cleaver to this workforce is self-destructive and dangerous to Americans who rely on the services they provide. It also cuts off the legs of young, passionate scientists who represent the future of meteorology in the new age of Al and other emerging technologies - the very people we need in the field right now.

As a part of this community since the age of 8 when I began analyzing hurricanes with dial-up internet, I am heartbroken and concerned by what appears to be planned or already in motion. It also directly impacts my friends and family. I cannot be silent, despite knowing I do myself no favors by speaking out. I ask you to join me in advocating for u/NWS and u/NOAA if you value their work or the work that I am able to do because of them. There are many ways to make your voice heard
I understand. I was angry when over 100,000 of our fine and much needed military personnel were kicked out of service for refusing an unproven and untested vaccine. Same for the thousands working on the pipeline that Biden canceled day 1 of his term.

This difference here is our economy is 36 trillion in debt and adding 2 trillion each year. This cannot be sustained. We are paying more annually on the interest of our debt than our entire military budget. Massive cuts need to be made to a government that continues to grow no matter the market conditions. No matter what we do at this point we are going to have a crash but these cuts will help to lessen and shorten the pain.

I worked in large project construction. I’ve seen the same things, only the cost is much higher, but they never worry. Most of it is tax money.

Less than 200 of the fired were actually hired during the probationary time frame. The rest had been promoted or shifted into a new position and were still in a probationary status due to the new job title.

My friend here in Savannah got fired last week. He worked for the NWS for 15 years. About 18 months ago, at his initiative and based on the research he and a couple other guys had worked on, he got split off to a new unit. It was good stuff. Beneficial to all.

He and his team got canned 10 days ago because they were “probationary” employees. And, his firing letter said he was was being terminated because his work wasn’t good.

He'd been there for 15 years.

**** all of that. It’s not the right way to do things.
and when a Hurricane comes and it's track is predicted incorrectly, somehow it will be Biden and Obama's fault as well as the democrat's "weather machine" that the Republicans were saying the dems used to attack Republican areas in the Carolinas.

No one's life will be harmed by these cuts. To say so is rediculous.
