Overall, I tried to avoid coaches who would not come to Georgia, either because they have a similar job at a similarly situated school or are longtime NFL guys. For example, tOSU's OL coach isn't coming here, neither is the Phildelphia Eagles' OL coach so they are not on the list.

I tried to focus on those who have coached college OR have some sort of connection to Kirby. I included links to their current employer website with each.

Eric Mateos

  • 2011 Southwest Baptist (Asst. OL coach)
  • 2012 Hutchinson CC (OL coach)
  • 2013-15 Arkansas (graduate Assistant)
  • 2016 LSU (graduate assistant)
  • 2017-2018 Texas State (OL coach)
  • 2019-2020 BYU (OL coach)
  • 2021-2023 Baylor (OL coach)
  • 2024 Arkansas (OL coach)
WHY – this was my #1 choice to replace Matt Luke. Experience in the South and the SEC, spent time at Arkansas under Pittman, BYU under Kilani Sitake, and Matt Rhule. Went back to be Pittman’s OL coach this season and their fans do not want him to leave. Really good coach.

Eddie Gordon

  • 2017 Louisiana (graduate assistant)
  • 2018 Louisiana (Director of Player Development)
  • 2019-2021 Georgia (graduate assistant)
  • 2022 Georgia (quality control)
  • 2023 UAB (OL coach)
  • 2024 Green Bay Packers (Asst. OL coach)
WHY – Three years here under Pittman, Luke, and Searels, was Trent Dilfer’s OL coach at UAB last season before making the jump to the pros. By all accounts was instrumental in keeping our recruiting classes together, we could give him a promotion and a big raise from day one. Familiar with Kirby and the standard of what’s expected.

Jeff Norrid

  • 2005-2007 – Arkansas (graduate assistant)
  • 2009-2014 – Alabama (Offensive Analyst)
  • 2015-2016 – Auburn (Offensive Analyst)
  • 2018 – Florida Atlantic (Offensive Analyst)
  • 2019-2020 – Florida Atlantic (OL coach)
  • 2021-2023 – Louisiana (OL coach)
  • 2024-present – Duke (OL coach)
WHY – Duke had one of the nation’s best sack percentages and a really strong year under Manny Diaz. Norrid has extensive SEC experience (11 years) and was hired by Saban at Alabama and Lane Kiffin at FAU. Was with Kirby at Alabama from 2009-2014.

Geep Wade

  • 2006-2008 UT Martin (OL coach)
  • 2009 UT Martin (OC/OL coach)
  • 2010-2011Chattanooga (OL coach)
  • 2012 Marshall (OL coach)
  • 2013-2015 Middle Tennessee (OL coach)
  • 2016-2017 East Carolina(OL coach)
  • 2018 UT Martin (OC/OL coach)
  • 2021 Georgia Southern (OL coach)
  • 2022 Appalachian State (OL coach)
  • 2023-present Georgia Tech (OL coach)
WHY – Yes, I know. But he’s done really good work at Tech, has extensive ties to the Deep South, and we could double his salary. He gets a lot out of a less talented offensive line and the Tech folks are crazy about him. If he wants to move up in the coaching world, we could make that happen.

Brad Davis

  • 2006–2007 Texas A&M (graduate assistant)
  • 2008 North Carolina (graduate assistant)
  • 2009–2013 Portland State (OL coach)
  • 2014 James Madison (co-OC/OL coach)
  • 2015 East Carolina (OL coach)
  • 2016 North Texas (OL coach)
  • 2017 Florida (OL coach)
  • 2018–2019 Missouri (OL coach)
  • 2020 Arkansas (OL coach)
  • 2021–present LSU (OL coach)
WHY – this one is more of a longshot, but why not? Been coaching in the SEC since 2017 and was Pittman’s OL coach when he took the Arkansas job. Remained on staff (interim HC) when Orgeron was fired and ultimately retained by Brian Kelly. If he wants more job security and a potential crack at a co-OC job or the NFL, Georgia is a ticket there.

Richard Owens

  • 2010-2011 Arkansas (graduate assistant)
  • 2012 UAB (TE coach)
  • 2013 UAB (OC/WR coach)
  • 2014 UAB (TE coach)
  • 2015 South Alabama (TE coach)
  • 2016-2017 South Alabama (OL coach)
  • 2018 Louisville (TE coach)
  • 2019-2021 UAB (OL coach)
  • 2022 Georgia Southern (OL coach)
  • 2023-present Louisville (OL coach)
WHY – I love what he brings to the table from a head coach offensive philosophy standpoint. Coached for Bobby Petrino, Bill Clark, Clay Helton, and now Jeff Brohm. Could be really helpful in gameplanning, Louisville had a really good offense this year. He’s a Louisville alum but we could give him a raise and de facto promotion.

Chris Watt

https://www.colts.com/team/coaches-roster/chris-watt

  • 2019-2020 Notre Dame (graduate assistant)
  • 2021 Tulane (OL coach)
  • 2022 Notre Dame (assistant OL coach)
  • 2023-present Indianapolis Colts (assistant OL coach)
WHY – Coached for Brian Kelly and Marcus Freeman at Notre Dame, Willie Fritz at Tulane. We could offer a promotion and raise, reviews seem to be good so far. If he wants a head job some day, he needs to be a high level position coach/coordinator first.

Manrey Saint-Amour

https://georgiastatesports.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/manrey-saint-amour/1429

  • 2020 Florida State (graduate assistant)
  • 2021 Alabama (graduate assistant)
  • 2022 Charleston Southern (OL coach)
  • 2023 Georgia (quality control)
  • 2024 Georgia State (OL coach)
WHY – Worked for Kirby last year, two other years spent at FSU and Alabama. Dell McGee hired him to be his OL coach, he actually coached OL for us in the Orange Bowl when Searels had pneumonia. Would be a raise and promotion, he’s familiar with the Kirby standard. Seemed to be well-liked by players

Carmen Bricillo

https://www.giants.com/team/coaches-roster/carmen-bricillo

  • 2009 Illinois (offensive assistant)
  • 2010-2018 Youngstown State (OL coach)
  • 2019 New England Patriots (offensive assistant)
  • 2020-2021 New England Patriots (OL coach)
  • 2022-2023 Las Vegas Raiders (OL coach)
  • 2024 New York Giants (OL coach)
WHY – A bunch of time in college, then took over for legendary NE OL coach Dante Scarnecchia. Fielded top 10 PFF OL in Las Vegas and has done well in NYG considering injuries. With some staff shakeup in New York, he could be unemployed and might want a break before going back into the NFL

Scott Huff

https://www.seahawks.com/team/coaches-roster/scott-huff

  • 2006 Boise State (TE coach)
  • 2007-2009 Boise State (OL coach)
  • 2010-2013 Boise State (TE coach)
  • 2014-2016 Boise State (OL coach)
  • 2017-2023 Washington (OL coach)
  • 2024-present Seattle Seahawks (OL coach)
WHY – his OC at Seattle (Ryan Grubb) was just fired, so he might be looking for work. Was a college guy and DeBoer’s OL coach at Washington. Alabama wanted him to come to Tuscaloosa before he ended up staying in the PNW. Seahawks liked his work, helped carve out a really nice OL at Washington en route to the National Championship Game. Alabama has some regret that they couldn’t bring him in, already talk of them circling back…
