As a recovering progressive or as just someone desensitized by the past decade of Western culture, I'm not all appalled as some over the bisexual threesome skit. But the open mockery of Christianity is just getting old. No one's pretending to hide it anymore.

The goal has to be the decay of Western society, right?

The irony is western civilizations will likely be most accepting of this art. If you are going to throw a party for the world, I would think you would be aware of the customs and beliefs of all involved and avoid doing things that literally compel some cultures to violently attack.

They only attack Christianity for some reason. Muslims will throw a gay man off a building but the LBBTQ community will hold rallies/riots for people who hate them and would kill them. They don't get it or don't care. It is all about hate for Christians.

Vive la France was posted here by one our lib friends, trannies, satan, ball sacks hanging out, and a beat up statute of liberty. Macron posted this is France on X. But, if you put Muhammed in a cartoon the muslims kill you.

Regarding the battered statue of Liberty: imo either symbolizes America as decaying or see America dying in the future

Sick perverts! They will be judged one day, we all will. It will be hot where those sorry basterds end up & once there , it never gets better!

You're pretty gullible

This little blue sh*thead was the Dionysus portion & they tied the last supper mockery in with his skit. Just another example of "believe what we tell you, not what you're lying eyes see"

So because C Spire, which spends so much on advertising that I’ve never even heard of them, pulled its advertising, that means the Olympics were mocking the Last Supper and not paying homage to the famous painting of the Greek Feast of Dionysus? Reminder, the Olympics originated in Greece.

Did you notice that there were sixteen, not twelve, characters in the Olympic performance? Sixteen, like in the famous painting of the feast and not twelve, as portrayed in the Last Supper?

I wonder how much money C Spire pulled from “Olympic advertising”. C Spire provides service in MS and limited areas in TN and AL, so we know they aren’t doing national spends. They probably bought some spots on local cable. I bet no one associated with the Olympics has any idea who C Spire is much less what they spend their money on.

There’s plenty for Christians to be offended by in this world, but this isn’t one of them. Kudos to C Spire though for getting millions of dollars in free PR and impressing people too offended to actually try and understand what they are offended about.

Dude you fixate on the smallest gayest shit & try to use that to disapprove everything else.

I just grabbed a tweet that showed the 2 scenes too & bottom. Sorry for picking one that your OCD couldn't get past that advertisement segment

Forget about C Spire & their advertising. Here is another tweet hopefully you won't be able to fixate as heavily on

If he didn't intend to portray the Last Supper, he probably shouldn't have named the segment of the opening ceremony performance the "Last Supper."

Thomas Jolly, a French native from Normandy who works as a theater artist, deserves all the credit for organising the 2024 Olympics opening ceremony.

Though Jolly is commended for bringing out the event in spectacular manner, he faced severe condemnation for directing the ‘Last Supper,’ a spoof act in which drag queens sat behind a table in imitation of how Christ and his followers sat down for the holy ritual.

Viewers and religious authorities have harshly condemned the presentation as well as other contentious acts. While organisers maintain that the scene was meant to draw attention to the absurdity of violence, many contend that it ridicules Christianity.

I focus on the gayest shit? Thank you. Most gays I know are smart and successful so I’ll take that as a complement.

Your own photo of the Olympic ceremony shows fourteen people and it doesn’t show everyone on stage. There were sixteen, same as what was portrayed in the Feast painting.

It’s actually amazingly egotistical of US Christians to think that the French government set out to offend the Christian world. The explanation provided by the Olympic committee makes perfect sense, but some Christians these days seem to thrive on the idea that the world is conspiring against them, when the reality is much of the world doesn’t care how you or anyone else chooses to worship.

I wonder why I haven’t seen anyone on the Chat complaining about the many examples of Trump as Savior art.

So the numbers weren't exact. They were literally in the same poses. That was not by accident. It matches almost perfectly the last supper. I can't find any imagery at all from feast of Dionysus that matches that open scene of that drag event

Believe what you want. I don't know how someone can see that scene & think that's not the Last Supper, see Snoop Dogg's baphomet necklace which he wore very prominently on air, the pale horse.

It's not egotistical when it's this obvious

I think my tone has been disrespectful. My apologies for that.

I don’t know how old you are, so you may or may not remember the satanic panic in the 80’s. Look it up if you aren’t familiar. When people look hard enough, they can always find what they are looking for.

Having said that, I understand the fact that conservatives were not comfortable with the opening ceremonies in general. It was very French and no question diversity was very prominently featured.

Zona, you always bring the goods. Would you mind sharing the source? I’ve spent ten minutes trying to find the same information and so far haven’t been able to.

Never seen it and don’t like it. Probably dim art making fun of Trump supporters.

You have officially reached the point of no shame and it’s amazing how far over the top your tds has taken you.

Excusing the crap you excuse trying to put it back on Trump Next thing you will tell us is you are voting for a proud communist and that communism is great. Especially with a super woman like Kamala running it. SMH. You should be embarrassed but we know you are not.

Article on MSN.com, along with several others. I wanted to find one where Jolly talked about it himself, rather than relying exclusively on other interpretations.

You mentioned the Bacchanalia with the inclusion of Dionysus, and those elements are also present. But it is not one or the other. He's intentionally including both.

I think almost all Americans were like “um what the hell is this?” - but my version of that reaction was more in the vein of “those weirdo French” - than assuming it was some satanic worship. It’s just really bizarre art that doesn’t resonate with me at all.

Diversity??? More like Perversion.

I don't care what the intent was. It was offensive and unnecessary.

Perhaps they're weirdo French because they mocked the Olympics by using performers and visions that really have nothing to do with the spirit of the event?

Labeling something "art" doesn't remove intent.

Stealing from a store and giving the items away isn't excusable just because one calls it performance art inspired by Robin Hood.

Setting the Christianity conversation aside, look how they featured the headless Marie Antoinette. It's one thing to make a historical reference as part of the story of France, it's another to have several headless figures holding their singing head during a heavy metal performance that also featured red ribbons shooting into the air that looked like blood spray from the wide angle.

It was a glorification of violence more than a tribute to the French Revolution in the context of giving a brief summary the viewers.

I guess when the Olympics return to the United States we can get Tarantino to produce some live gore to tell American history with emphasis on the American Revolution, Civil War, and even throw in some presidential assassinations and attempts concluding with our current "fight for democracy".

Go big or go home, right?

Certainly feels like the intent was to deliver perverse art and that by itself isn't part of the Olympic spirit.

I was going to post something very similar. It is supposed to be a celebration of the athletes from around the world and from what I saw, the athletes were an afterthought. Now, I figured it was going to be an extremely artsy show that I wouldn't appreciate and I had no issue with it but I was being a good soldier and watching with my wife. Personally, I thought it was a terribly boring show but chalked it up to my taste in entertainment. When my wife asked me if I cared if she fast forwarded thru the show, I knew something was off. Imo, perversions and gore aside, the show just didn't connect with the event and didn't make me think I was watching a celebration of what should have been celebrated.

Totally agree. I turned to my in-laws who I was watching with and said “can someone explain what this has to do with the Olympics?” That said, I’m just kind of neutral about it- if this is what Paris wants to do with their Olympics then fine. I certainly hope ours in LA is a lot more interesting like Beijings. You can tie in your country’s history and Greek themes without being bizarre. This isn’t supposed to be high art- it’s supposed to be meaningful and accessible to the broadest, most diverse global audience. I can’t imagine the fits the Islamic countries are having over this.

If I was going to make a political critique about the cerimony, it would be that the purpose of the Olympic games is supposed to be a uniting event and France allowed their desire to highlight their (ahem) art overrode the idea of promoting unity thru athletics. Instead of using the opportunity to promote France's role in bringing the world together, they took us on a divisive journey thru a twisted artist's mind.

Just a garden variety French artsy-fartsy, socialist shit show.
Can't believe people are so surprised.

Yep. My wife was looking forward to it all week and when I peaked at the opening performance and saw the beheaded scene I thought I was watching a commercial for an updated Haunted Mansion at Disney or a new Monster Plantation at Six Flags.

Then Gaga's performance just wasn't hitting for me and I generally don't mind Gaga as an entertainer in some regards. Her "out there" imagery isn't interesting to me but that stretch of somehwat normalcy when she really zoned in on acting was pretty enjoyable. She's a legit pop entertainer with some content I don't like so I filter like a good adult.

I certainly filtered out the opening ceremony after the first 20 minutes.

I actually like a lot of Gaga stuff but that whatever that was was not a song at all.
