1. The attrition of high end offensive talent along with secondary players has left our team, while talented, with glaring holes: the inability to cover receivers (or to communicate on defense) and also the inability to be explosive on offense. Essentially, this is the “we haven’t recruited well enough in the right places” theory
2. We have plenty of talent, but we are not playing to their strengths and/or we are not developing our guys. This is the “we aren’t coaching them up” theory.
I know there’s not just one answer here, but our guys look lost on both sides of the ball far too often. We either aren’t effectively teaching the team what we want or we’re being stubborn and not playing to their strengths by making it more simple for them. Everything looks extremely difficult for our players right now.
Maybe the light comes on, but I think we’ve got a lot of soul searching to do in the offseason about which coaches - on BOTH sides of the ball - are meeting our standard.
