Mike Griffin I guess has moved on from bitching about playing in Jacksonville since they released a new contract last week to actual journalism and interviewed Peach Bowl CEO Gary Stokan last night.
Stokan confirmed in the article that the Big Ten champ will be contractually obligated to go to the Rose Bowl, and the higher of the SEC or Big 12 champ will be contractually obligated to go to the Sugar Bowl due to the original contract from 2014 that’s still in place for the next two years. Which means the ACC champ will be contractually obligated to play in the Orange Bowl next year.
He also confirmed that the committee will place the 1 seed in the closest semifinal location based on geography. So if Oregon is the 1, they are slotted into the Cotton no matter what, even if they could match up with Texas there. (Kinda stupid)
So if the CFP rankings were the end of year rankings, we would play the winner of Notre Dame / Penn State in New Orleans and the Alabama / Texas / Miami winner in Miami. That’s right, we would have to possibly play Miami in Miami as the higher seed.
My fix: just move all playoff games until the national championship to campus
