We got trolled, that much seems obvious. It sucks, the way it played out and because Downs is truly a superstar Eric Berry reincarnate. The only guy close in the country at safety is Starks..

It was so much fun figuring out a way to fit everyone in the picture given the confidence in him coming. Now that’s he’s not, it’s still pretty damn fun to look at what we have left.

QB-Beck
First rounder, probably 1 overall, Heisman favorite

RB-Etienne(NFL bloodlines and potential in the right fit)
Paul and Robinson(RB1’s at 99% of schools in America)
Stud freshmen(Frazier is going to play early and often)
Anything from Branson in a bonus

WR- Lovett(in line for a huge year)
Bell(once he figures it out, watch out)
Rara, big time stud just needs to find consistency
Young, LARGE and fast and a different element
Humphrey, big time athlete and potential
Evans, STUD in the making in the mold of a Ladd or Lovett

TE- Delp, NFL potential TE
Stanford transfer- mature, great athlete, physical as hell
Luckie- smaller Delp with more physicality
Redell-Dallas Goedert reincarnate

OL- Earnest, NFL guard
Fairchild/Morris, both NFL guards
Tate, NFL guard
Wilson, excellent athlete(more so than SVP), been in the system a long time albeit smaller than SVP
Freeling, future 1st rounder

Anything you get from freshmen is a bonus, 7-8 deep here with legit NFL prospects

DL- Most everyone back and a year older. If they can find 1 more edge and DT to allow Mykell and Naz/Brinson to float, 2022 level is very attainable and the right portal plug brings this group flirting with 2021. Hall and Miller all grown up will be a massive boom too.

EDGE-LOADED, Mykell, Evans, Gabe Harris, Walker, bringing in 1 more in the mold of an edge/5 tech hybrid unlocks 13 to roam. Big time potential here. Mykell is a first rounder.

LB- Smael, CJ, Raylen, Bowles, Justin Williams, Cole is just silly. They’ll mix and match and find dudes who can really, really play.

DB- this is where it gets fun Downs or not. We have 4 legit CB1’s in Everette, Julio, Ellis, and Daniel Harris. How do you get them all on the field? Don’t sleep on Daniel Harris getting looks at star. If you wanted to know what Brini’s body combined with Baker’s athleticism and coverage instincts looked like.. Harris. Ellis at star could be a ball too.

I know Aguero has/is trained at star almost exclusively. But he absolutely can play Bullard’s old role. That is his long term NFL position, not Star. I wouldn’t be shocked to see him back there to accommodate more corners on the field. The depth back there is still damn solid.

Overall, you’re still looking at the top team in America in talent and returning talent. Downs would have made settling the order in the secondary easier. But we aren’t struggling at safety. Plenty of talent to fill that role. Now it’s time to find the right combination leading up to September. The staff will do it.

There will be portal attrition and addition between now and then. But our core of draft eligible guys DWARFS the next closest team(Texas), and OSU has 7 big name brand guys and a bunch of Meh filling other roles. Poor on the OL and interior DL+LB.

We roll in 2024.
