Close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades.
But man, we were right there after not being right there at all.
These Hoop Dawgs will not lay down, that's for sure.

1st Half
The first four minutes of the game looked to doom the whole thing. Florida's guards just punked our guards (all of them) for 4 turnovers that led to open court transition baskets. Also, Hill and Thomasson go 0 for 4 from the foul stripe and we take a 13 point deficit into half. Would have been much worse if not for Melendez (13 points) and Tchewa (6 points, 9 rebs)

2nd half
Demary fouls out at the 13:22 mark and we are down 21. Almost all hope seemed lost. Then we just started grinding out a comeback. It's a 14 point deficit with 5:16 left and Melendez and Blue hit four 3's (2 a piece). Blue scored 10 points in the last 3:16 seconds. It was WILD. We have a chance at winning it but we turn it over and don't get a look.

Overtime
Our defense just went back to having the same problems it was having throughout the game. Tchewa would get pulled outside on a screen and they just either dumped it inside for a lay-up or got the rebound for a lay-up. We gave up 17 points in a 5 minute OT period and all but two points were a lay-up or free throw. Our defense felt pretty porous almost the whole game.

Magical Night
Melendez just went nuts. It didn't feel like we had any business being in this game with the way we were playing and he just absolutely carried us. 35 points, 6 three's. Making HUGE shots. Getting 5 steals. Effective driving to the lane. Just an absolute day for that young man.

Killer Stat
At half we were outrebounded 15 to 21. In the second half and OT we get outrebounded 12 to 27. An absolute backbreaker.

Tchewa played his tail off. 15 points, 11 rebounds.
Hill was great in the comeback period. Finished with 11 points and 9 assists, with 2 turnovers.
Blue was a microwave with those 10 points in the final 3:16.

But we (pretty much everyone) left a lot to be desired on the defensive end tonight . They had a game plan that just carved us to pieces and made it look easy. Melendez and Tchewa covered up a lot of our defensive sins with some great offensive play and rebounding. So many of our guys were getting worked.

It feels good to have had a chance after where we were in this game, but it doesn't count as anything but an L. We need to make sure we don't let one loss turn into two. Let's get after Bama and get that W Wednesday night! Go Dawgs!!!
