I was having a few beers today with a couple buddies of mine at our local watering hole and the topic about preseason rankings came up. My opinion is, if you finished #1 in the country the prior season then you should come into the next season as #1 until someone knocks you off. One friend did not agree. I believe that the top 5 or even the top 10 finishing the previous season should hold their ranking until they lose etc. Otherwise the rankings are based on pure speculation about personnel changes. For example, Ohio State could come into 2023 ranked #1 based on a few "experts" opinions. Not based on the previous seasons results.
