Today is National Chocolate Ice Cream Day…..A Wendys Frostie will do…..More importantly, today is also National Cancer Survivor’s Day, a day of celebration for some…..a day to prove that life after a cancer diagnosis can be a reality……After three major surgeries, and forty chemo/radiation treatments, my bride is cancer free for the third time…..She’s a trooper…..Have a good day fellow Dawgs……
UGA SPORTS SPOTLIGHT:
I’m gonna mention a Dawg great in the UGA sports spotlight section this morning, just to make sure at least something Dawg is mentioned today in this “DAWGChat” forum…Today the Georgia Bulldog in the spotlight is former Dawg Golfer Tim Simpson………
Atlanta native Tim Simpson attended high school at Woodward Academy where he was the Atlanta Junior Champion, Georgia Junior Champion and Westlake National Junior Champion…….He attended the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia, and was a member of the golf team, where he was 1st team All-SEC as a freshman…….He won the 1976 Southern Amateur tournament….. He left college early and turned professional at age 20……
His Pro career (1977-1991) resulted in 9 wins and 66 Top 10 PGA finishes…..Simpson's PGA Tour career was brought to a sudden end due to his contracting Lyme disease on a hunting trip in 1991, and the neurological pathological condition resulting from it……He has had brain surgery and spinal fusion surgery…….In his late thirties and forties, his health improved enough to allow him to play some on the Nationwide Tour where he’s had a couple of 2nd place finishes…….
During his career Simpson was called one of the greatest ball strikers in the games history by golfing greats Butch Harmon, Jack Nicklaus, and Johnny Miller……Early in his career, he was mentored by long-time friends, Sam Snead and J. C. Snead……
Simpson was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 2004, and the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame in 2006…..He began play on the Champions Tour in 2006……He home is now in Greensboro, Georgia…….Tim Simpson, a DGD……
