Many here won't know of Al because his playing days were the sixties and very early seventies. He was as tough a guard who ever picked up a roundball. Hence his nickname "The Destroyer". Al was 6'0 and about 175. He had virtually no neck and his voice was a deep rumble. He was just a very solid all-around player. He was player/coach of the warriors when I was with the Hawks. One night in Atlanta we're playing the Warriors and the game was getting real physical and out of hand. Finally a fight broke out. As the benches started to empty Richie Guerin, Hawks coach, and as tough a guy as I've ever known, looked down the bench and said " fellas grab anybody, but don't grab Al Attles. I sat back down and enjoyed the show.
