The aspect of football that we all love and hate

In any given game, you can never count on what you think should happen, and any single game has no bearing on the game the next week. We all know it, but it's human nature to look at recent past performances and project what should happen in the future. We love it when SC shocks KY, or FSU loses three straight, or when ND inexplicably losses like last week. But then we flip out when we look like crap against the same KY team that SC destroyed 7 days ago. Last year, AL needed a miracle to beat a bad AU team and some assumed we see the same performance from them in the SECC and have a cake walk.

It happens in the pros too. Do you think ANYONE thought Carr would hang 44 on the Dallas D today, in Dallas!? Or that Sam Darnold would lead the Vikings over SF?

We all know, "on any given Saturday (or Sunday)..." and we revel in how great that is when it's another team that suffers, but we conveniently forget about it when it doesn't go our way.

All this to say:
1) We didn't play our A, B or C game. It was D or D- depending on how you look at it, but we came out with a road win in the SEC - something we all talk about being tough to do week in and week out.
2) Just like KY looked like a different team last night compared to last week, we too, will look completely differently in two weeks.
3) While we as fans play the comparison game, you have to believe that 18 and 19-year old kids do the same (or maybe worse?) Will it be difficult for the AL coaches to get their team's undivided attention and focus for the next two weeks after seeing our film from last night? Could very will be a problem for them? Saban could probably pull it off; can DeBoer?
4) On the other side, even though we won, you think our coaches and team will be eager to rid themselves of the stench of last night next time they take the field? You know the answer to that.

We obviously have flaws and things to work on the next two weeks. And getting healthier and getting key players back like Brinson and Mykell will only help. Will we beat Bama? Who knows, but fortunately, we aren't in any way constrained by the performance from last night. While I would love to have dominated KY last night, you could argue we'll be even more dangerous at Bama than if we had dominated KY and looked like the #1 team in the country.
