leave Afghan which he thought would signal the end of the war. He wanted so much to bask in the glory of ending a 20 year war on 9/11. Sending in troops or air support for the Afghan forces would delay the end. Rounding up all Americans or Afghan allies would be a delay. So they rounded up whatever random Afghans they could find and flew them out. He figured he could lie about the fact that the Taliban had already taken control by blaming it on a miscalculation by the intelligence community.
