to plan for war against the Houthis… and accidentally copying in a reporter from The Atlantic?

If you don’t know what Signal is, it’s a secure chatting app that is absolutely not made for US war plans.

Our national security team needs to tighten up and Trump needs to chew some ass. They should have their conferences face to face from now on. WTH!

The mistake is unimaginable, but also unsurprising given the fact that Hegseth doesn’t have the professional experience or the temperament to serve in such an important role.

This is embarrassing.

Wow, respect to the chat, I never thought I would see a Trump acolyte F the pooch and no one on here clamors to defend it simply out of blind loyalty. Kudos. Pete is a clown and should immediately be fired. In fact, those were his own words when bashing Clinton.

Lighten up, Francis.

If true, Trump’s team made a dumb mistake, and they will make sure it doesn’t happen again. That doesn’t make them all stupid. Have you ever made a dumb mistake? Yeah, thought so.

I am obviously a big Trump supporter and made a joke about the mistake (see above) to point out the dumbness of it and as a criticism as well. No blind loyalty here or whatever other bullshit you’re spewing.

Go back to your Tesla burning.

This is what happens when you hire talk show hosts to lead the largest military in the world.

This is North Korea-level incompetence.

And, of course, Hegseth takes no accountability.

I’m pretty sure the republicans on here would be very understanding if bird-brain Kamala were to have texted all the admin’s war plans to a Fox News reporter by mistake in an insecure channel.

And none of the so called Dems on here would be defending her like the Trumpers are doing for their Orange Jesus

The Trump devotion is beyond cult status

I'd fire Hegseth. The rest of the PC on the group message need to be brought into the Oval Office and have their asses chewed for being so completely ignorant.

Inexcusable on every level and suggests a bunch of amateurs. How you have a dozen or so Cabinet-level officials and not one of them questions why TF are we messaging top secret info over a commercial app is astonishing.

Because none of them were hired for their professional qualifications, relevant experience or proven temperament for their respective roles. Hegseth is only the most egregious example.

The more that comes out about this the worse it gets. Now they are doubling down on blaming the media member. Politicians learn nothing it seems. I am sure Pete is trying hard to keep his job. Not sure if he is the one who made the mistake of adding the journalist. If so, he of all people can’t afford to make that kind of mistake.

One of the biggest moments during the campaign was both Kamala and Joe saying they wouldn’t change a thing. This is a chance to be better than that and own a mistake. Now there is blood in the water. This is not being handled well so far at all. They have earned the smoke.

Waltz added the Atlantic reporter to the Signal thread, but Hegseth was the one who shared the war plan details.

Waltz will likely be offered up as a sacrifice, but Hegseth should absolutely be cut loose.

They have painted themselves into a corner. Gabbard claims that nothing in the Signal thread was classified, so the Dem senators are demanding that the entire thread be released. If nothing else, the Atlantic reporter should release the parts of the thread he has not released in deference to national security concerns.

So now what?

I don’t have an issue with them discussing this. For sure. I am not knowledgeable enough to know how secure or insecure what they were using to do this is. I didn’t find his logic in the text threads to be off base. I found the security leak to be ridiculous. Waltz is the one who stepped in it. He needs to own it. Try to move forward. Or be gone. I get why Pete was a question mark. Kind of hard to put all the blame on him it seems. Unless I am missing something.

Folks are missing the point. Cabinet-level group communicating and sharing top secret defense information on a commercial app they all downloaded off the App Store on their phones. It doesn't matter who made the mistake of inviting the journalist. That they're using this app at all is complete amateur hour and also ignorant of information laws. This is Hillary archiving emails in a closet in her house level of stupidity.

That was kind of the question I was asking or not sure about. I don’t know anything about the app they were using. Haven’t had the time to get into the details. If all of that is true, it is beyond dumb to have done it that way. I would think anything these guys use on their phone would be secure to the outside world other than human error. Maybe I am assuming too much, but I would think they don’t use the same phones we carry around everyday. They don’t have a family account with Verizon.

I'm actually glad is was brought to light. An egregious error that should humble the entire bunch. All need to step back, slow down and do things in a secure measured manner. Any loss of life from this error would have been enormous and Trump's Presidency would have taken a serious hit. Luckily the results were not Afghanistan withdrawal magnitude. Media can dissect for weeks and the cabinet level folks can regroup. We all need to eat humble pie sometimes, luckily this one did not result in loss of life.

Totally agree. It didn’t cause Trump to have to make up the gold star family moniker. That did nothing but piss people off. He was lucky. The more we learn about this the better. I don’t like the strategy. They aren’t going to be perfect. There will be mistakes made. Own them. That is my issue. Own them and move forward hopefully learning from your screw up.

The real HYPOCRITES here will be anyone who demands "justice" while giving Hilary the "nothing to see here" treatment.
It is hard not to look back when all of this is being discussed. All of those blind people requesting the smoking gun that Biden sold out the country. Trying to find a way not to believe his family was not on the take due to his influence. And somehow his son and brother were doing this without his knowledge. There is some world class hypocrisy in this thread.

It doesn’t change what happened here was a mistake that cannot be duplicated. They were lucky no one was put in harms way by not vetting the room.

Right direction but expand your thinking.

Signal is an app that deletes communications after a predetermined period of time. This isn’t amateur hour, this is an intentional effort to avoid laws regarding document retention.

I suspect a lot of communication within the administration happens in a similar fashion.

Very familiar with encrypted messaging apps like Signal. They're not hack-proof - China is probably monitoring these morons' phones. It doesn't disappear if a rogue third party is shadowing it.

Totally agree and I wasn’t suggesting there is a single appropriate reason for that group to be using Signal or anything similar.

In fact, my point was that the use is likely an intentional effort to avoid our laws regarding document retention.

The best way to avoid a future fight about release of internal communications is to not document internal communications.

Ratcliffe testified the CIA loaded the Signal app on his computer right after he was confirmed... probably did the same for all cabinet heads. Seems relevant.

So now what?

This woman is such a nut job and so unqualified. The whole cabinet is

When all of my fellow Republicans were in this Messageboard, thumping their chest at Pete being made the leader of the department of defense, I reminded everyone that he is supremely unqualified, probably the least qualified person in the position ever. We better pray that no military conflict breaks out or lots of Americans are going to die.

This is just a preview of what we have in store.

I can’t wait until there’s another pandemic and Robert Kennedy is running things. Lol.

It’s almost like the people in this thread don’t watch the news. Lol.

Have we all forgotten that China was already listening into Donald Trump’s phone calls made from his personal cell phone? Does nobody remember that he refused to use the secure phone during his first term and preferred to use his personal cell phone? He did this because he did not understand that he had already been hacked.

We are so woefully ill prepared for a war against China on every single front. So many Americans are gonna die.

What you are describing is precisely what happened. That’s why the whole country is shook right now.

This is an extraordinary breach.

In any normal administration, the FBI would have already opened an investigation into this matter. But of course… Kash Patel.

Tom cotton may have a point, but I don’t like it when people say “it is my understanding…“ Because that means they’re not willing to stick their neck out that it’s a fact.

As far as Scott Jennings, almost every single thing he said, was either wrong, or a lie.

The idea that this was “well thought out“ because it was literally a text thread is absurd. When he says that the White House admitted it, and owned their mistake, that’s just a complete lie. Donald Trump denied he was even aware of it, which is absurd; and then Pete Hegseth said that it was actually the reporter who is discredited, rather than himself. All nonsense. No accountability.
