-I will start by saying the assistant coaching staff and approach when it comes to recruiting is much better. It’s night and day from the previous staff. Coach Simpson has been to many perfect game events since taking the job. Simpson being a scout for so long makes him used to the grind of scouting and now recruiting talent. Will Coggins has been recruiting numerous top in state bats and has been building UGA ties in states like Mississpi. The biggest difference between Wes Johnson and staff I’m told is “they won’t settle.” In the past Georgia wouldn’t swing big at Chase Burnes and elite transfer bats like Redfield. The new staff won’t take transfers or HS kids to just take them now.

-UGA keeping Brock Bennett has helped keep most commits in the 24, 25, and 26 classes. The only two defections were Jaxon Walker an elite OF and in state catcher Ariston Veasey. Walker has has committed to in state Tennessee and Veasey on the other hand has a good chance of returning to UGA’s recruiting class. Coach Simpson, Bennett, and Coggins are all prioritizing Veasey. Veasey is a top 100 HS prospect.

-Another name to follow is Bryce Clavon the two sport star out of Kell is an elite SS and plays QB for his football team. The expectation is Clavon is all in on baseball long term. He is the number 1 HS prospect in the state of GA in the new perfect game rankings. Clavon could be a day 1 pick in the 2024 MLB draft but is very interested in the college game. The draft only being 20 rounds, NIL, and the growth of college baseball is making HS kids harder to pry from the draft. UGA is in good position with Clavon with Tennessee as competition.

-A few updates from some recent rankings changes for UGA commits. Cade Brown a 3B jumped over 70 spots to being 52nd overall player in the country. New UGA commit Asher Sabom jumped over 200 spots to being ranked inside the top 300. The two way player can throw 93 MPH on the mound and hit. One interesting development is Michael Mullinex who dropped from the number 5 player in the class to number 14.

-Michael Mullinex is a Georgia commit with first round potential however like with Clavon the chances of him going the college route are increasing. Mullinex is rated 14th by perfect game one spot lower than Dylan Crews and Cameron Jonson a top 40 prospect in this years drafted who opted for college. The Georgia staff has been in heavy communication with Mullinex and if he doesn’t get 1st round money he’s likely going to college.

-When it comes to the portal UGA is about done unless they can add 1 pitcher who can be in the rotation.
