Super random post here, but thought I would hit up the DV's depth of knowledge. Just looking for some unbiased opinions from any foresters on management of southern pine beetle infestations in Georgia. Unfortunately we lost about 9 acres of pines this past fall. Essentially we had to clear cut the area impacted with exception of the hardwoods. My question is what would be recommended to do prior to the spring? Should we drop any additional trees on the perimeter that show signs they could be impacted? Will these bugs stay dormant through the winter and reemerge in the same place? Will these extreme cold temps kill them off? I've read about pre-emptively spraying in winter prior to spring, but unsure if that helps. Any input from folks with experience is appreciated. Thanks
