What are we actually trying to accomplish with it other than positioning ourselves as an AI leader?

To me it is a lot like space race. Either we capitalize on it or other countries will. And this will be far more important than the race to space and will likely result in more space technology also.
Depends. I probably wouldn't want a custom made mRNA vax for a spot of basal cell but would probably crawl to an AI center for a custom made vax if I had markers for esophageal cancer.
Not just any mRNA vaccines, potential for a vaccine created solely for a single individual, created in 48 hours to match your DNA and target the specific DNA and genetic makeup of the cancer in your body, could be game changing.
They will not be cool with it and that will be another step forward in the march of much needed Darwinism.
It may not cure cancer. As it was explained to me, if you live long enough, you will get cancer. You may not live to 150, but you were destined to die from it at that age. If AI is a success, you will see it first in assisting rules-based professions like accounting, law, medicine, engineering. It knows when you’ve been sleeping, it knows when you’re awake. How would you like to face it in an IRS audit?
This may break the shorting wall in Navidia stock, or it may not. I hope it does.
Anything that creates private sector jobs is !000% better for the People of thye good old USA than Goverment created jobs. People with jobs pay for goverment jobs. Governmment jobs are paid for by people with jobs. it is easy to understand less government jobs the better off you are if you have a job. The dems do not understand that
