It was a gutty, rock fight kind of win for Cedartown last night. The Bulldogs took down rival Rockmart 13-12 in a slugfest that had pads popping all night long.
Late in the game, Cedartown had a fourth-and-1 at its own 35 or so. If you'll recall, the Bulldogs lost the state title last season after being stopped repeatedly on the goal line in the closing minutes.
Harris told me the team had a fourth-and-1 drill all offseason, preparing for situations just like that. The coaches originally wanted to punt last night, but Harris and his teammates talked them into going for it. They converted and ran a few more minutes off the clock before giving the ball back to Cedartown.
That loss fueled Harris all offseason. I asked him if he takes anything away from the Georgia program as he looks to push his own group of Bulldogs over the top.
"A winner. I want to be a winner everywhere I go. I don't like losing," Harris said.
