I’m like a kid at Christmas thinking about next Wednesday night. Out of all the venues this is the one I dreamed of seeing Georgia play a playoff game in. It’s where my passion for Georgia football went to obsessive on January 1, 2003 at the age of 9. I was blessed to go to NOLA to see Georgia take on Florida State. I remember how excited the older folks I went on the trip were to see Georgia return to New Orleans for the first time in 20years.

My mom had told me stories of Herschel in ‘81, the heartbreak to Marino in ‘82, and the title that got away to Penn state in ‘83. I still remember vividly seeing the team come down the escalator in the Marriot hotel and the hype around it. I remember Bruce Thornton’s pick 6 like it was yesterday. I didn’t care if it wasn’t for the national title, but it felt like a national championship win to my 9 year old self at the time and could tell it was a huge deal.

2008 blacking out Hawaii was special as well and another great memory of my youth. I tried to make ‘19 and ‘20 have the same nostalgic feel and didn’t take it for granted to see Georgia in another Sugar Bowl.

I can’t wait to have that same nostalgic feel come Wednesday night. Even as someone who doesn’t remember college football pre BCS era I know how historic and special this game is as a southern college football fan. I’m thankful the good lord has blessed us with the opportunity to see Georgia in this game one more time. Go Dawgs!!
