the 1960’s, alphabetically: Edgar Chandler, Dennis Hughes, Lynn Hughes, Kent Lawrence, George Patton, Larry Rakestraw, Jake Scott, Bill Stanfill, Charles Whittemore, Jim Wilson. There’s one glaring mistake, IMHO: quarterback Kirby Moore belongs on this list, and he would replace Lynn Hughes (S). KM was the quickest quarterback I’ve ever seen and had sprinters’ speed. He threw the flea flicker that allowed UGA to defeat Alabama in 1965; he threw the two point conversion after that TD to Pat Hodgson; he won the 1966 game at Auburn with a long touchdown run where he just outran everybody; he missed the 1967 game against Florida with an injured ankle, a game we would have won if Kirby had played; instead UF upset us, 16-17. That’s the kind of impact Kirby had in a football game. He was a much better passer than he was given credit for; we rarely threw the football during those days, and a quarterback improves at throwing the football by throwing the football during games. If Kirby had been in a balanced offense and allowed to throw the ball, he would have been unstoppable! KIRBY MOORE’s omission is a big miss!
