As posted here before, although it being the "biggest upset, maybe, in the history of the NCAA Tournament" is highly debatable (4th-seeded Georgia was actually just a 3.5-point underdog to 2nd-seeded UNC), the Bulldogs' win over the Tar Heels 42 years ago today likely remains the most significant victory in Georgia's men's basketball history.
From what I recall, few folks actually believed the Bulldogs could pull the upset. Take a look at the rosters of the two teams. UNC had eight players on its roster who had been Parade All-Americans in high school; Georgia had four (Banks, Crosby, Fair, Fleming). UNC had three players who'd star in the NBA; Georgia had one (Fleming).
