The problem isn’t the bowl games, it’s the system that has given the keys to asylum to the inmates.

What this NIL world has created is a system of no rules and third party control over player decisions.

And if all you can play for is a national championship or fail, it all just becomes a financial net gain/loss system.

It becomes exactly what college football wasn’t and thrived by not being.

It is no longer a system of student athletes representing their school. It becomes a player finding the best deal, not just the first year, but each subsequent year without any rules on tampering.

Usually a NIL arrangement in the business world is paid once the individual has earned the right. There is an apprenticeship process in business where you earn more based on proven performance.

The college football system is broken. NIL should never be allowed to lure a player to a school. It should be what they can earn on their performance while there. All the system does now is allow a school to purchase a player.

Pro sports - Minimum salaries and slotted pay based on election in the draft.
College - neither

Pro sports - Contractural control for a certain number of years before free agency is earned/allowed.
College- No control, open free agency

Pro sports - Severe tampering rules
College - none

Pro sports - Agents and third party financial concerns determining whether player plays

College - Same thing

A college player is recruited, awarded a scholarship. The school invested in the player. The player is an important part of the team and their success. But the player is offered more money from another school and shuts his season down, not playing in games, bowls….. leaving his school, coaches and teammates hanging.

To circle back around, play the bowl games. Give incentives to schools that will never be a top 12. Let them play.

Then fix this ridiculous NIL system we have now.
