After sleeping on last night, its pretty obvious to me what makes the loss feel so bad.
Its the fact its really the first time I have seen a team that is not coached by Nick Saban out coach Kirby.
Lets go through it.
-all and all I thought the defense was pretty great last night. They made some plays over the middle of the field on linebackers that I think the staff was fine with living with. But how and why was Jalon, Damon, and Chaz in coverage so frequently? I dont ever want to see 10 or 11 chasing a guy down field. On the first series, we had 2 sacks and a pressure to force an INT. Don’t exactly know why that changed but it’s unacceptable.
-after our first TD, it was time to take the gloves off. Bobo and the staff basically neutered the office by being conservative and allowing us to fall behind. Vs a team like Ole Miss, you have to match points. If you dont, you let them start keying run which was effective early, get you in long passing downs, and boom you start getting sacked. If Carson is your guy, go down with him, not what your gameplan was on Tuesday.
-speaking of OL, cant say enough about how horrible of a job this was coaching. There were brief adjustments where we looked good when Monroe was at LT. Earnest Greene’s time as LT needs to be over. You cant win football games with your back side so vulnerable. He has been bad all season.
- when it comes to carson. Its not his mobility or his turnover holding him and us back. Its his lack of ability to hold himself accountable for the team’s success in game. Stetson’s 2022 vs OSU interception on the bench reaction after they scored is a perfect example or all the times he’d come off the field livid because he was holding the staff accountable. Not saying Carson doesn’t care or some of the things yall will but its very clear to me, that next level of wanting it so bad you’d kill someone isnt there.
Good news is that we arent dead yet. Everyone needs to get a long hard look in the mirror and earn their money. Too talented of a team to lose the way we did last night.
