There's not a person associated with UGA that didn't want Richt to work out.

A fine man. A great face to a program that has changed much since the early '80's when I was there.

Had this thing worked, it would have been the excelsior among college programs. A few more SEC championships... maybe a run at an NC.

Folks point to what Saban has done even though there is a soulless sense about it. I don't envy Bama's success as much as I feel that Richt didn't realize his program's potential. He could have had success AND a sense of purpose.

I'm sad it didn't work; but at the same time I put ownership of that on Richt. He had the opportunity to be better than he was... and without some Faustian compromise. He certainly had the tools (79 NFL-grade players). Athens is a great town. Dawg fans are loud and loyal. And, contrary to claims otherwise, our expectations are not unfounded.

Good luck to Coach Richt. We're gonna pay you a lot of money to do something else.

But better luck is wished for UGA. The answer is out there. Go get it.

I share your point of view. He did it his way and stuck to it to the end. I admire him for that. Wish he'd been a little more hands on with the "small" things such as special teams, play calling (especially this year) and roster management.

Soulless? Give me a break. CMR is who he is. They all do this for a living. There is no proof he is any better or worse than most of the rest of the CFB coaches in America. They all have their ways, MR quotes bible verses on Sunday and takes part in dirty recruiting on Monday. That's his job. A friend told me what you see is what you get, well we've seen some great things and some shaky things. Don't get melodramatic. He lasted 15 years on the same job but in the end he was under achieving and he likely knows it. Great job Coach for lasting as long as you did.

I like Mark Richt, but his teams were sloppy and fundamentally unsound for years. They won on sheer talent alone. His players were extremely undisciplined on the field. Since football is a game of inches, this will cost champioships, no matter how talented you are.

More sloppy and fundamentally unsound than Saban & Meyer and I agree that's what separates the men from the boys, but Richt's teams were more similar than not to most of the best of the rest, with some offensive brilliance thrown in for good measure. Have you seen a Les Miles coached offense? I watched one in person last night. They make us look proficient. One good drive to kill the game in the end.
