The Good
• Getting tough on illegal immigration
• Signing the Laken Riley law
• DOGE and more DOGE. Only Elon Musk could lead the change that we need and that is very difficult. History will treat him well.
• Deregulation
• Making libs continue to reveal their true craziness by getting into political (heck, maybe even literal) bed with crazy, dimented people.
But all this good is on ice is getting thinner by the day with these idiotic tariffs. Canadian lumber and steel that's dumped on the market didn't concern me too much, but this 25% tariff on foreign cars and parts, even those that ARE MADE HERE is not smart. Not only is it not smart but also it betrays many of the voting areas that showed up enthusiastically to resurrect his political career and keep him out of jail.
Here's a big, "yuge" eff you to the workers at Nissan, VW, Kia, Hyundai, and all the other foreign car brands that brought good jobs to economically desolate towns.
My parents always bought American cars until just recently when they bought a Toyota. I remember how my Dad had huge problems with a Dodge truck; after he sold it, he swore off the entire brand. I think the quality, price, and innovation are going to suffer a lot if foreign carmakers are kept out of the United States because the American car makers are going to get complacent.
I can't tell if the Wall Street Journal is just trying to scare us, but they're writing columns that those tariffs are going to trigger another Great Depression. I hope they're wrong, but I'm souring quickly on this presidency.
