The Good
• Getting tough on illegal immigration
• Signing the Laken Riley law
• DOGE and more DOGE. Only Elon Musk could lead the change that we need and that is very difficult. History will treat him well.
• Deregulation
• Making libs continue to reveal their true craziness by getting into political (heck, maybe even literal) bed with crazy, dimented people.

But all this good is on ice is getting thinner by the day with these idiotic tariffs. Canadian lumber and steel that's dumped on the market didn't concern me too much, but this 25% tariff on foreign cars and parts, even those that ARE MADE HERE is not smart. Not only is it not smart but also it betrays many of the voting areas that showed up enthusiastically to resurrect his political career and keep him out of jail.
Here's a big, "yuge" eff you to the workers at Nissan, VW, Kia, Hyundai, and all the other foreign car brands that brought good jobs to economically desolate towns.

My parents always bought American cars until just recently when they bought a Toyota. I remember how my Dad had huge problems with a Dodge truck; after he sold it, he swore off the entire brand. I think the quality, price, and innovation are going to suffer a lot if foreign carmakers are kept out of the United States because the American car makers are going to get complacent.

I can't tell if the Wall Street Journal is just trying to scare us, but they're writing columns that those tariffs are going to trigger another Great Depression. I hope they're wrong, but I'm souring quickly on this presidency.

I don’t know the answer. But loss of manufacturing in this country is frightening. Covid was eye opener. Coupled with the continued demise of middle class, something drastic has to be done. Trumps team must have confidence in the plan. The easy path politically was maintaining status quo Think most of the reciprocal tariffs will be negotiated fairly quickly. The 10% tariffs will stay long term. Resulting in some new domestic manufacturing and additional income from those that choose to pay tariffs.

The loss of t-shirt and rug manufacturing is not concerning when we have continued to grow above and beyond to be the richest country in the history of the world. Trying to tax Cambodia to bring back apparel manufacturing will only make us poorer.

Says who? We're $37T underwater, and our manufacturing and drug production is almost completely offshore. Meanwhile, Obama, Pelosi and AOC are raking it in.

No offense, but I trust the guy who’s made billions of dollars over you. And the fact he had our economy humming in his first term. Tariffs will cause some short term pain then the market boom will come, but what do I know I just stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night, lol.

The guy who bankrupted a casino? Literally the easiest money on earth? That guy?!?!?

You know who else promised short term pain for long term gain? Literally every charlatan, dictator and communist. It’s a ruse and you fell for it.

👆🏻 these type of idiotic comparisons are exactly why Trump beat that a$$ in November, lol.

I remember when y’all were bitching bout him starting WW3 during his first term. “That man’s finger is on the nuclear button.” Remember? What actually happened?! The first President in my lifetime with no new wars! Ya, that sounds a lot like every other dictator I’ve read about in World History. 🙄

Charlatan. He probably has a little of that in him. But dictator and communist make a post that started out accurate and turned into something not even remotely credible. Dictators don’t answer questions. They don’t take questions. And the communist comment, I don’t even know how to answer that. The fact that you voted for a vegetable and never noticed means you have no freaking clue what a damn ruse even looks like. Your guy stopped running the country two years ago and you brought your milkshake to the yard for it.

Let me guess. You can’t admit to being a Democrat either. 🤦‍♂️

I think today’s tariff announcement is the biggest economic policy mistake in my voting lifetime and I’m 60. The potential damage it can to our economy, global stability, and the loss of personal wealth is staggering.

It did not take long for people to figure out the chart he used to justify supposedly reciprocal tariffs were totally made up and grossly inaccurate. Anyone at all with knowledge of tariffs has called it a farce.

For the people who hate the Democrats so much, these tariffs could cause a major power swing. People care a lot more about their pocketbooks than trans people using the wrong bathroom

I think he has a plan in the end. We will see. If I am wrong I will say he ran head first into a disaster. I have heard both explanations. How it will work. How it won’t. Both make good points. I just am not sure he would risk so much to go head first off a cliff. When if he had to he could stay status quo, make things a little better and look like a hero. I mean we are in horrible shape. Only way the arrow could point is up. How many times can people lose money on betting that he is stupid? I think he is playing a big game of chicken. Any gains will be a good thing.

You lost me at Dodge truck… that’s his own dayum fault… I do like my wife’s Highlander a lot…
I mentioned it as Trump seems to want to encourage people to "buy American" by putting his tariff thumb on the scale, but all that leads to is lazy American automakers who produce inferior quality goods compared to the product they would make if they had to stay ahead of foreign competition.

And Dad hated that truck BTW.

If there truly were short term pain and long-term gain in this announcement, the stock market would go up, not down. Investors would see this will benefit us long term. The stock market tanked immediately. There are no clothes on the emperor.

This isn’t unheard of. This happened several times over the past 6 years. We are only 1000 points below where we were in January. Right now. For the Dow jones. With him announcing tariffs that were surely going to make the market unsure. We are still 1500 points above where we were on the nasdaq at this point in April of last year. 450 points ahead of where we were last year on the s and p. And right now the markets couldn’t be more unsure. The rich have done nothing but become richer for four years. The middle class has fallen back drastically. By design. The way we were going with massive debts this country is accruing don’t you think we have to try something different. He has never, ever said this wasn’t his plan.

We have the most credit card debt ever in this country. We have auto loans defaulting at an alarming rate. It is a risky balancing act for sure, but what we are doing is only working for one class of people. Any historian will tell you that trend never ends well.
