Traveling from Atl to Custer, South Dakota (question on road in Chatt)

Slow going so far. Wreck south of Dalton and the normal 30 minute delay in Chattanooga. Growing up in Dalton, this traffic issue has been around forever but gotten worse. Does anyone smarter than me know the issue? 75 to 24 goes to 1 lane with a huge shoulder (enough for 2 more lanes).

Anyway on to Columbia, MO tonight. Sioux Falls tomorrow and Custer on Sunday!
