Trump threatens US Carmakers on raising prices to offset tariffs

The "suffer now, it will be better later" argument is probably the most ridiculous thing I have seen in politics since the Democrats had the audacity to cause a government spending increase the "inflation reduction act." Complete idiocy reigns on both sides of the political spectrum.
Look, you don’t package that in a campaign. But suffer now is because of where we have been left. 34 and 18. Didn’t happen because things are great. We have some hurt coming. Smoke, mirrors and dumbass spending will get you there. I am curious. You think Kamala would have been better? I know that would be hard to say. It is like admitting you are a true idiot.

I think ANY of the other Republicans would have been far better than Trump or Kamala. The country officially went down the sewer when Trump won the Republican nomination.

Only the Dems to blame for that one too. The media as well. They kept going after him. CNN was trump all day every day. Running 1-6 stuff on a loop for a year. Then the morons tried to prosecute him, came off so poorly it actually helped him. CNN had him for a town hall type interview two years ago. Had their gotcha questions ready. He clobbered the host. Then springboarded to the top of the pub list. Biden was a vege. He lied more than Trump did. Which no one thought possible. Then the coup happened basically handing Trump the election. Instead of choosing a better candidate they let fear keep them from moving on from Kamala. We got to eventually see the real her. If her career isn’t over it should be. She spent nearly 2 billion dollars and word saladed her way thru the campaign. Then got smoked.

Right now. You and everyone like you on the board are not learning a damn thing. It is get trump all day every day. No one admits they are actually a Democrat. He has killed that party. No one here wants to say they are a liberal Democrat. Until you guys and others own who you are, decide to focus on fixing what is wrong instead of attacking Trump, you will continue to get the very same shit sandwich you hate eating.

I'm not buying a car this year so I don't care.

You really should stop placing the blame for Trump anywhere other than the party that enthusiastically supports him. He has been the GOP since he won the nomination in 2016.

The party had the ability and justification to end his political career after J6 and Mitch McConnell and the GOP opted not to, falling ten votes short of conviction in his second impeachment trial.

If the GOP wanted a more reasonable candidate for 2024, they had ample ability to nominate one. The GOP got exactly who they wanted because they like Trump and his dysfunction and his bluster. A meaningful number care more about owning the libs than they do governance, and they got exactly what they voted for.

Obama insulted him at a presidential dinner will. He has said that was the moment he decided to run. That is a fact. He didn’t even start out as a gop candidate. That was decided at the very end before 2016. You finally beat him. Had him left for dust after 1-6. You kept him current. He was the story still for the media. And the rest of you he has lived rent free for about 9 years now. Couldn’t let him go. Now your whole philosophy here is to trash him. No matter what he does. Never once have you mentioned any problems worth solving. Just how crazy he is. Yes. We voted for him. But we would never have gotten the chance without Dems helping him along every step of the way. I think the media can’t live without him. It is an obsession.

Where are all the egg price nazi's? Here's a statement from the uaw president about tariffs and restarting plants they left to manufacture in Mexico...

Anti-Trump UAW president backs tariffs on foreign-made cars: ‘They could bring work back in very short order’

Fain, a prominent anti-Trump campaigner ahead of last year’s election, said that the levies could benefit workers and used remarkably similar language as the White House on how carmakers could onshore jobs.

“We have excess capacity” at manufacturing plants, Fain said, using near identical framing as the White House. “They could bring work back in very short order.”

“Tariffs are a tool in the toolbox to get these companies to do the right thing, and the intent behind it is to bring jobs back here, and, you know, invest in the American workers,” Fain said in an interview on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”

SHAWN FAIN: It's- he's spot on. Look, we have a situation right now in Warren, Michigan where 2,000 workers were laid off this past year. They- they built the Ram truck there for years under Stellantis, and Stellantis made a decision to shift that production to Mexico. They could shift that work back in- in very short order and be producing Ram trucks right back there and put those people back to work. I was just at Volkswagen this week, you know, talking with workers down there that are trying to get their first contract, and the company announced a reduction of a shift. Meanwhile, you know, Volkswagen is the biggest violator of all. They- 75% of their production for the North American market is made in Mexico, so they can shift product there overnight. There's excess capacity. You know, we- people forget this lesson in World War II. The way that we- we formed the Arsenal of Democracy that won the war was, they took the excess capacity of all the automotive manufacturing plants in the country, and produced tanks and planes and bombs and engines and all those things. And it's no different right now. We have excess capacity. They could bring work back in very short order. And yes, they're- in a situation where they need to build a new plant, yeah, that's going to take a couple years, but- but there is plenty of opportunity for these companies to do the right thing and bring work back here overnight, just as quick as they shifted out of here.

Just “move manufacturing to the US”. Simple, right?

Given this is so simple, what do you think is involved for companies wishing to move manufacturing to the US and how long do you think is required between the decision to develop more US capacity and new vehicles rolling off the assembly line?
How expensive was it to move OUT of the USA.

How expensive was it to move OUT of the USA.
Given the significantly lower cost of production (labor cost were as much as 70-90% lower, although that gap has narrowed over time), most manufacturers broke even on their investment in offshoring in 2-4 years.

Annual savings would typically be 30% or more when compared to US production, depending on the product and industry.

The country "officially" went down when James Comey briefed Barack Obama about a scheme to paint DJT as a Russian agent and he didn't shut down the effort to spy on an opposing candidate and his campaign while using known propaganda to secure warrants from a secret court. Then all of those other acceptable pols you seem to adore went along with a soft coup and tried to derail a duly elected POTUS before his first 100 days were up.

Look, everyone knows Trump is a first class ass but everyone also knows the media and the opposition on both sides of the aisle will keep him in check to a certain degree. Everyone also knows those pols that are acceptable to you took the greatest economic engine in the history of mankind and drove it straight to almost 40 trillion in debt, who knows how much in unfunded obligations, allowed millions of undocumented migrants that live off the American dream instead of living the American dream and on and on. Trump was the first pol to seriously confront the non enforcement of our immigration laws by both parties. Trump shined a light on our horrible trade policies that allowed countries to VAT tax and tariff our exports but gave them virtually free access to our markets. Trump has exposed the DC swamp rats for what they are while every other pub leader since Reagan has played the DC game. So forgive me for believing in the asshole that tells me to my face what he has planned over the assholes that tell me they are going to take corrective action but continue playing the grift game after elected.
