The Black squad posted a 5-4 win Tuesday at Foley Field to even the Fall World Series.

Sophomore ace right-hander Robert Tyler started for the Black squad, and in the second inning, he was given a 2-0 lead thanks to a two-run blast from junior first baseman Daniel Nichols. It came off freshman left-hander Ryan Avidano. However in the top of the third, the Red team rallied to tie the contest.

Freshman shortstop Trey Logan and sophomore outfielder Skyler Weber (2-for-2, BB) notched singles. Junior third baseman Trevor Kieboom knocked in Logan with an RBI- single. Later in the frame with two outs, Jared Walsh made it 2-all with an RBI-single. Tyler pitched three innings and registered six strikeouts but did not factor in the decision.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Black team loaded the bases against Avidano as Nichols drew a walk, followed by singles by freshmen Mitchell Webb and Keegan McGovern. An errant pickoff attempt by the catcher allowed two runs to score to make it 4-2. Following a walk, Avidano was lifted in favor of right-hander Mike Mancuso. By the end of the frame, the Black team had built a 5-2 advantage.

In the top of the fifth, the Red team rallied for two runs off of senior Brandon Stephens as the Black squad made a couple of errors to help make it a 5-4 contest.

Right-hander Austin Wallace picked up a win in relief of Tyler while senior Jared Cheek collected a save by registering two strikeouts in an inning of work. Avidano allowed five runs but only three were earned.

Game three of the series is slated for Thursday featuring Walsh starting for the Red squad versus sophomore left-hander Connor Jones going for the Black team. The Red team took game one 6-0 this past Sunday.
