Coach Richt was a very good Coach and I was an admitted fan of Coach Richt. That said, after the first 5 years of his tenure, he never assembled a complete team and our ceiling became being just "very good" instead of "great." Kirby has established UGA as a truly great team and we are built to last. Moreover, the administration has stepped up to get him everything he could conceivably want. The decision to bring in Kirby seems like a no brainer now, but we were so fortunate to hit the jackpot. Consider:

  • Nebraska brings in Scott Frost -- no brainer. Flames out.
  • Post-Fulmer Tennessee
  • Post-Meyer Florida
  • Post-Paterno Penn State
  • Post-Spurrier South Carolina.
  • Any other numbers of former powers, Texas, Michigan, UCLA, Washington.
  • Any number of sure fire coaching successes -- Tom Herman, Franklin, Napier, Charlie Weiss.
Replacing a very good coach is dangerous. For many it is the start of a long down cycle. We gambled and won.
