including three who have had 1000 yard seasons in the NFL.
AJ Green- 6
George Pickens- 1
Ladd McConkey- 1
Years where UGA ranked in the top 20 nationally in passing yards per game since Terrence Edwards went for 1000 plus in 2002.
2008- 16th with 13 games played
2013- 15th with 13 games played
2022- 15th with 15 games played
2023-11th with 14 games played
2024- 12th with 14 games played
The year we finally got a 1000 yard WR we ranked 39th in the country in passing yards per game. It was done in 14 games.
Other years we ranked very high in passing yards per game.
2001- 24th
I can't find the rankings for these years, but in 1993 and 1994 we averaged 323 and 338 pypg, but did not have a 1000 yard WR.
Eric Zeier had the most passing yards for a career in the SEC when he finished. He did not have a 1000 yard WR.
David Greene had the most passing yards for an SEC career when he finished. He had only one 1000 yard WR.
Aaron Murray holds the career record for most passing yards in SEC history. He did not have a 1000 yard WR.
These are the QBs with the top 18 passing yardage single seasons in SEC history:
1. Joe Burrow (2019): 2 WRs that went over 1500 yards
2. Bryce Young (2021): 2 WRs that went over 1100 yards
3. Will Rogers (2021): 1 WR that went over 1000 yards
4. Mac Jones (2020): 1 WR that went over 1800 yards and won the Heisman
5. Kyle Trask (2020): 0 WR that went over 1000 yards (Toney had 984 yards in 11 games)
6. Jaxson Dart (2024): 1 WR that went over 1000 yards
7. Tim Couch (1998): 1 WR over 1000 yards
8. Stetson (2022): 0 WR that went over 1000 (Bowers had 942 yards in 15 games; Ladd was the best WR with 762 in 15 games).
9. Johnny Football (2013): 1 WR over 1300 yards
10. Garrett Nussmeier (2024): 0 WR over 1000 yards ( Anderson (13 games) and Lacy (12 games) were both over 800.
11. Chad Kelly (2015): 1 WR over 1100 yards
12. Will Rogers (2022): 0 WR over 1000 yards (Rara was the leading WR with 626. Pirate swinging a dull sword.)
13. Tua (2018): 1 WR over 1300 yards
14. Drew Lock (2017): 1 WR over 1000 yards
15. Carson Beck (2023): 0 WR over 1000 yards. (Bowers 714 yards in 10 games; Lovett was the leading WR with 613 yards in 14 games)
16. Jordan Ta'amu (2018): 1 WR over 1300 yards
17. Rex Grossman (2001): 2 WR over 1000 yards
18. Aaron Murray (2012): 0 WR over 1000 yards. (T. King was the leading WR with 950 yards)
So of the 18 best single season passing yardage seasons in SEC history, 6 have been done without a 1000 yard WR and half of them belong to UGA.
UGA's seasons were 15, 14 and 14 game seasons. The leading WR of each year played in all of the games.
Trask's 2020 season was a Covid shortened 12 game season and Toney opted out of the bowl game 16 yards shy of a 1000.
Nussmeier's 2024 season was done in 13 games. Lacy (RIP) only played in 12.
This would be hard to accomplish if we were trying to do it.
