Now that the season is wrapped, lets look at how we stacked up in conference play. These are looking at just the 18 conference games, and how we stacked up against the 16 teams in the conference.

So we totally changed the way we played this year once we got a legit big men in Newell (he was crazy special this year, just nuts for a freshmen). Lots more twos, but not a lot of shooting to go with them. Especially from the wing spot. Blue, Lawrence, and Leffew played a ton of minutes, but between all three in 20 conference games (including the sec tourney and the ncaa tourney), only one wing had a game where they hit more than 2 threes (That one game was Blue, at Tx A&M and he played 37 minutes that night). That's pretty rough. Now in coference Blue did shoot 37% from three but he just didn't get a ton of three's up for the amount of minutes he played. Lawrence was 32% on low attempts. Leffew was 24% from three from the start of conference play until the end of the season. White was quoted and repeated often about Leffew and his performance against UGA last year. Well, it turns out maybe Leffrew really loves the Steg. Leffew's splits were crazy. He shot 40% this season from three inside the Steg for the entire season but only 21% away from three for the entire season. White was quoted yesterday as saying he thought Leffew was about to go off, but in the last 20 games he only hit double figures 6 times and only once over 14 points. Now the biggest surprise of the season to me was Demary's uptick in volume of threes and his percentage. It was wild, he finished at 37% on high volume (he had 6 games with 3 or more threes in conference play). But somehow he started really struggling from two point range. He didn't get to the cup as much as last year and wasn't able to bully as much. Still a great season for him though.
Our length and culture had us playing at a really good level on the defensive end. We fought hard on the boards. Our players are high character and are really good athletes across the board. But we were young and not skilled from deep. Our ball handling was also suspect.
I'm not sure the portal is going to be easy with those offensive numbers listed above.
The portal has also been a struggle for us. Our guys didn't have top tier ranking and I don't think any of them really exceed their ranking. Yesterday our portal haul from last year (5 guys), combined for 69 minutes played and 12 points total with 5 turnovers.
Not trying to be negative, just wanting to take a deep dive on what our numbers were and the possibility of why.
