First, nothing in this post is meant to attack any UGA QB. Anything negative is just an honest reflection of actual outcomes.
Now for HC, OC, and QBC. When is Kirby going to get this right?
This season proves all along that Richt should be credited for the successful run of competent QBs and record setting offenses under his watch, not Bobo. I defended Bobo mainly because he is the guy at the wheel right now and I'm a UGA supporter so I want him to succeed. Now that the season is over, I think he's fine as an analyst, QB whisper, and recruiter, but we need new blood for OC.
As far as I'm concerned, the QB position has been a relative mess at UGA under Kirby. We've had some exciting signings with Eason, Fromm, and Fields, but all 3 ended their careers here without much to celebrate. Just strange.
Meanwhile, Carson, Brock, and Gunner signings were all celebrated, yet the signals went quiet after they arrived and doubt set in on who would ever he "the man" in the future. Seems like every season we end up talking about the portal and not even for a high profile FBS starter. It's usually someone with similar recruiting ranking as our guys, but got playing time at their school.
Is this not a sign we either can't evaluate or develop QB talent? Why is it that someone somewhere else is a better option than one of our guys on the roster. People are even looking over Rashada already and he hasn't even had a shot yet. Why do other programs put out QBs who at least look like gamers with a level of comfort running their offense even if they aren't necessarily NFL prospects, yet we don't seem to ever believe our young guys will ever be ready?
The one QB who really delivered was the one who had to leave and come home, yet still got told he wasn't QB1 at UGA material. If not for injuries and other drama, Stetson wouldn't have played and I'm not sure we have 1 natty, much less 2. How's that for evaluation and development?
When are we going to have a clean QB story where a guy comes in, learns a bit, and has a progressively good career before leaving?
We haven't had a Greene, Shockley, Stafford, or Murray like career yet. Can we get just 1 of that type of career in this era?
We need an OC who is going to inspire a gamer to sign here and develop this gamer over his career so that we don't see shocking regression.
Until then, throwing $2 million at 1 WR may be a waste.
