He is definitely from Gainesville. I think that dweeb Mike Bianchi said he grew up near him. Not sure I believe that.
I've read over the years that Petty's dad may have been a gator fan, but I have never seen one mention of him being a gator and, in fact, read somewhere that he hated UF and the gators.
