My dear friend, Frank Bone Hines, of Dawson passed away last night. He was 83. Frank was a long time member here. Being computer challenged, I’m not sure he made a single post. All he used his computer for was to check the Dawgvent and play solitaire. He was the walking definition of a lurker. His grandfather was one of the original guarantors of Sanford Stadium, and he is the one who told me about Herschel Walker when I was 13 in 1977. He had watched him as a high school freshman and had been following him since. My following Herschel led to my obsession with recruiting (more specifically Georgia recruiting)and thus my finding the Grapevine and Dawgvent when message boards were in their infancy. I spoke to Frank daily for many years. Those calls became less frequent as he aged, but we still spoke at least once a week and the conversation would be about 80% Georgia football/20% “how was my son doing?”. We ended every call with both of us saying “I love you”, and that gives me great comfort. With his wife and most of his friends gone, he would tell me on each call “I just want to be here to see Georgia win it all one more time, then the Lord can take me.” The physical maladies that had caused so much pain for Frank are gone now. I know he is happy to be reunited with his wife, Judy, and dear friends like Vic Sullivan, Mack Allen and my parents. If you believe in prayer, please say one for Frank’s family. Merry Christmas to all.
