us 3-4 games last year with his insistence on using our slow-footed seven footer on doubleteams. If he does not go away from the high post screens he will cost us, and already has. I believe I heard the announcers say we had the slowest pace of play in the league. That is a direct result of what we are running. We dribble around with no cutters and end up taking tough shots.
Opening up the halfcourt will allow our slashers room to work. The D will have to shift to help out giving us some good looks from the perimeter. We are not a great shooting perimeter team, but we are better than our offense has allowed us to be.
We have a 6'11, 260 post man with a 42 inch vertical and we haven't given him the ball on the low block all year. I would install some sets with a double low post with Somto and RJ stacked. I would flash Asa high from the other block. if Absom is in the game he can stack low, or flash high from the wing. Asa and RJ both have jumphooks...use them. If Somto doesn't have one, then work him in practice before and after every practice. He has a nice touch, nobody can block it. I am tired of hearing announcers saying we need to feed the ball in the paint. Hell most of the time there is nobody there to receive it. Our frontline is a big advantage that we do not use. We will get good shots from our bigs or kickouts for open looks because they will have to double. Doing this will give all our bigs good position for offensive boards.
Our offensive problems are so evident that guys on the vent are accurately describing the problem. I guarantee you we will cut down on the awful turnovers our current sets are causing.
Call me old school if you like, but I'd take the Wheel, or Auburn Shuffle over what we are using now.
C'mon Mike don't pull a stubborn Mark Fox attitude.
