In speaking with some folks today, here's what we've heard.

The desire to play and to play more or less right away is weighing heavily into things here. Yes, NIL is also a big part of this, but so is wanting to be the starter from day one.

Carson Beck is an obstacle to that. The family might have believed Raiola would be able to compete with Beck from the first moment he stepped on campus. On the other hand, they could have thought Beck would surely be heading to the NFL. Either way, that could have created an opportunity for Raiola to compete for the starting job from day one.

Should Beck leave, there's also the possibility of bringing in a transfer quarterback. That would create another roadblock to starting.

As you all have probably seen, Nebraska is courting Ohio State transfer quarterback Kyle McCord. If McCord chooses the Cornhuskers, then their quarterback room, at least from the Raiola perspective, is similar to Georgia's. There's more of a chance Raiola would start over McCord at Nebraska - both would be newcomers - than starting over Beck at Georgia, but both are veterans who will likely have at least a leg up in the competition.

So McCord is going to be a domino to watch here.

If he chooses somewhere other than Nebraska, then a Raiola flip is essentially a done deal. If McCord goes to Nebraska, that at least provides at least some reason for pause for the Raiolas.

Most still feel that Raiola will end up at Nebraska either way. I know that's my personal belief, that he's not ending up in this class at this point. But the McCord situation at least provides something to monitor.
