What's going on with Greg?

Politics have gotten to greg, nothing is confirmed. Some $$$$booster want a change, program has taken a step back while has been in charge. Likely timing but I am ready for a culture change across all sports.

Not sure Greg hires have been very good as women's bball, gymnastics have stalled but both were replacing legends. Baseball is an odd sport that has seen the emergence of other schools in state water us down.

Andy stalled a long time ago. LOVE Andy though, let me make it clear. Gymnastics was AWFUL under Suzanne's hand picked replacement that Greg had nothing to do with, wasn't even here. But he got rid of him and brought in Durrante, WHO, in 2nd season got us back to the final 6. And we're headed there again this year. Baseball, like basketball under Harrick then Felton, had some cleaning up to do after Perno and in year 3 of Coach Stricklin, we'll see what happens. Lots of high school coaches wouldn't let UGA on campus.

I enjoyed watching women's basketball this year for the 1st time in a long time. More fast paced, up tempo and a LOT of hustle. This was Joni's first year as coach.

Greg probably came at the wrong time. 3 yrs under Adams, then a new Prez who needed a year to get the pulse of things before making or approving big decisions. So that leaves not quite 2 yrs post Adams and things started happening.

Ok Suzan left the kuberd bear also landers sucked at recruting.

Herd he was getting fired? Is this true?
Because he is a small man in a big man job. A man who can't do a press conference without blushing. A "man" who wore short shart pants while playing tennis.

I'm not sure how bare it was with gymnasts but coaching was definitely off.

If you want to know why and how Adams screwed the entire AA dept, of which ADGM wasn't here, and lasting effects, read "Beyond the Hedges". A real eye opener, with people involved in the process during the Dooley vs Adams fiasco. The Gov, legislature, big donors and BOR have no business being involved in athletics, imo. But Adams let them in to save his own hide. I really don't see how, for a lot of years, it's going to fix itself. You will be floored.

And it's not "hear say". People went on record and were quoted. For instance, can't remember her name, but the head of search committee to replace Knapp.........she was quoted and I'm paraphrasing, but she said that Adams was at the bottom of the short list, so they would see him first. Usually that's what you do she said. He had to cancel last minute because of something that came up at Centre College. (they were interviewing in Atlanta) After all of them had been interviewed a few weeks later, when they interviewed Adams, she said it was apparent that he not only KNEW the answers to the questions they were asking, he knew what the other candidates said. And she laid all that at the feet of Don Leeburn.

And later, they found out Adams was in Atlanta when he said he had to stay at Centre and missed his 1st interview.

Lump, I believe you mean "Behind the Hedges"....sorry, just making sure.

Would be interesting. He just doesn't seem to have the swagger or cool to lead UGA. I feel like a lot of other programs have caught up with us in terms of overall athletic dept success. Meanwhile Tech is even lower than we are. I'm not sure UGA and Tech have both been this low at the same time overall as an AD in my lifetime.

I get what you're saying but if politicians would stay out of athletics, as it is supposed to, things would be better, imo. I really feel with Adams gone and bringing them in, in such a huge way to cover his own behind, things will get better and actually have. It is not like ADGM isn't loyal to UGA, born and raised in Athens, alumnus, worked under Dooley for several years in the beginning of his career, 17 yrs as #2 in athletic dept at arguably one of the best Ath Depts during that time, he knows what he's doing. It's having his hands untied, imo.

Athletics is SUPPOSED to be non profit, (lol...have always thought what joke), etc. and privately run, with private donations and tv revenue and legally not a UGA entity. Used to be, about the only thing a Prez OR BOR had input on was branding (remember when Knapp changed the bulldog head logo to the arch? and the uproar), etc. And to somewhat oversee the academics so there's no embarrassment to the UGA brand. It was never to be another branch of the state govt, which is about what it's become, imvho. So has the BOR which definitely is not to be a govt branch. Sonny Perdue and Adams changed everything.

I remember when the Dooley vs Adams fiasco was going on, one of the ones fired from the AD's office the day after he retired, had told me mos earlier "If Coach Dooley doesn't win this thing, UGA Athletics will NOT be the same ever again for loyal fans and alumni. Secretive, catering to high dollar donors, politicians, etc. and the average fans will be locked out if any personal access."

I'd say, pretty accurate assessment for the future back then has pretty much come to pass. So many little things add up. Screwing up tailgating spots, cutting back on Bulldog Clubs, THOSE clubs were where you had your most loyal alumni and fans, you can hardly ever talk with anyone in athletic dept., email and I understand that, but then again, for an organization that depends on donations, answer the dang phone!, imo. Just a few things off the top of my head. All of this was changed before ADGM.

I'm not a big donor, but have season tickets. But by God, it's people like us who buy anything with a G or Bulldog head for cars, man caves, etc. of which UGA gets a percentage. It's US who sit in the heat, cold or rain supporting our Dawgs, spend hundreds of dollars on hotels, food, keeping Athens economy going, etc. That was all forgotten under Adams. I'm not saying big donors don't deserve some privileges, absolutely they do, but if they didn't have the season ticket holders, the stadium would be empty because those types certainly aren't going to be sitting in the elements.
