your receipe below sounds interesting... do you use a pork loin or tenderloin?
 
Not Feral, but I use a loin or shoulder when I crock pot a pork roast.

I pick up a 4 pack of them at Costco for between $20 and $25. Keep em in the freezer. Move one from freezer to fridge 24 hours before starting the crock pot cook.
 
I use my own butt rub mix and sear in olive oil.Onion slices in the crock


and then the butt. Don't need any liquid, meat has plenty of juice.
