Believe Trump is intentionally softening the stock market…..

Makes you wonder: Why would someone who typically points to the Dow as a scoreboard for economic success willfully use his own words and answers to questions in a way that so obviously has a negative impact on public equities? Why wouldn’t he be blowing sunshine on the equity markets?……why wouldn’t he backtrack on these negative words if that’s all it took to move the Dow up?

Please refer to the OP for the answer

The market selloff has everything to do with the President’s words…..controllable. There is little in the data that point to recession. But plenty in DJt’s words. I think there are some warning signals about credit card debt and delinquencies. But nothing in the economic data speaks to recession.
I think Trump thinks he is in control of the financial markets and can flip a switch and make everything better, but choosing this point in time to declare an all-out trade war was an odd decision. I think he is dangerously close to losing Congress as they assess their chances in the midterms. If Congress abandons him, the rest of his agenda is out the window. As someone who is very involved in purchasing and supply chain management, the immediate and real impact of these tariffs is devastating to American businesses, workers, and ultimately consumers. We are years (probably decades) from having a vertically integrated U.S. supply chain, and I'm not sure it is optimal for us to have all of our sourcing from domestic sources anyway. Almost all U.S. manufacturing businesses use foreign materials. All U.S. construction sites use foreign materials. I'm a construction executive and it has sent our upcoming projects into chaos, during an already slow period. Trump was elected because of high inflation and the economy, everything else was just a sideshow. I know he campaigned on tariffs, but that isn't what got him elected and it is going 100% against the mandate that got him elected.

I would add that capital flows are the largest issue impacting the market, flowing from US-Europe. The EU wants war and they are pulling capital back from the US to Germany/UK/France and buying their large caps as replacement. They need the US in their war so pulling the market down is also revenge for the Trump team telling the EU that the war is their problem.
So you know more than the hedge fund guys that I hear that from. Got it. You can be the Chat's personal financial advisor.
