1. Require real ID's for voting in a Federal election

2. Make it a Federal crime to illegally enter the country.

For those of you who would say, but they would never pass because the Senate has the filibuster rule, I would tell the democrats that we will not kill the filibuster rule if you allow these to pass.
But....

You should be requiring Real ID, which requires proof of citizenship, to register and to vote in a Federal election.

It is already a federal crime to enter the country without meeting immigration requirements. The law is not being enforced, currently.

They call it a crime but the punishment is a mere civil penalty.

Section 1325 sets forth criminal offenses relating to (1) improper entry into the United States by an alien, (2) entry into marriage for the purpose of evading immigration laws, and (3) establishing a commercial enterprise for the purpose of evading immigration laws. The Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA) amended 8 U.S.C. § 1325 to provide that an alien apprehended while entering or attempting to enter the United States at a time or place other than as designated by immigration officers shall be subject to a civil penalty.

I'm talking about a real crime with punishment and a permanent ban on any reentry with enhanced punishment.

Illegal immigration is now a huge national security issue. Make it a federal felony if they are apprehended; authorize shoot to kill if they run.

Okay, but you didn't say that. The civil penalties you mentioned are in addition to other crimes and penalties including jail time, fines, deportation and exclusion from potential citizenship. Those additional civil penalties can go up to 5 years in prison and fines of up to $250,000, increasing for each offense.

The potential issue you're going to face is filling US prisons with immigration violaters rather than deporting them immediately and barring re-entry. Big fines don't do much to those with no assets.

Just my opinion, but I would put aggressive enforcement of existing immigration laws first on the list.
