If they dont confirm him they get him back. :/He’s not even well liked by some in the GOP. His confirmation will be interesting.
Maybe Trump wanted him out of the house so that he wouldn’t try and vote out Johnson as speaker.
That was my thought. It is one way to get him out of Congress, but I think it will be tough to get him confirmed. He’s not even well liked by some in the GOP. His confirmation will be interesting.

Motivation. If they dont confirm him they get him back. :/
Maybe it's due to the fact that his long-time best buddy and party pal Joel Greenberg is currently serving 11 years in prison for a litany of felonies including trafficking a minor and there is credible testimony that Gaetz was involved in some of Greenberg's shenanigans. Not on board at all with this one, don't like him at all.

This and the Hegseth nomination for Secretary of Defense are very telling about what we can expect moving forward. I sure hope all of you were correct about Trump's ability to supercharge the economy, because this administration is going to do real damage to our foundational institutions.
Think this is a negotiating ploy. Not on board at all with this one, don't like him at all. I'm not sure he gets confirmed. If he does, it will take months...........
Damage or change to our foundational institutions? He has a mandate for change, some might look at it as damage and some as long await and necessary change.Maybe it's due to the fact that his long-time best buddy and party pal Joel Greenberg is currently serving 11 years in prison for a litany of felonies including trafficking a minor and there is credible testimony that Gaetz was involved in some of Greenberg's shenanigans.

No doubt that Gaetz is a talented legal mind. His personality and attitude has turned off many including his own party.
Didn’t see this one coming.
Stop with the mandate talk. A 50.2% to 48.1% popular vote difference is not a mandate. And while Trump swept the tossup states, the electoral college margin of victory hardly constitutes a mandate by any historical definition. '72, '80, '84, '88, '92, '96, '08 and '12 all had higher margins of victory in the EC.Damage or change to our foundational institutions? He's sat on some good committees.
- Committee on the Judiciary
- Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government
What do you base your conclusion about his legal mind upon … his legal career consists of 2.5 years as an associate attorney in Fort Walton. He’s spent more time and done better getting in trouble with the law than practicing it.No doubt that Gaetz is a talented legal mind. His personality and attitude has turned off many including his own party.
He seems to be aligned with Trump philosophically but because he’s a politician it’s hard to overcome whereas Trump can get away with it.
He won the EC and was the first popular vote republican winner in 20 years. 4 million votes.Stop with the mandate talk. A 50.2% to 48.1% popular vote difference is not a mandate. Change is fine, in fact sorely needed across some areas of the federal government. I'll respectfully suggest that Gaetz and Hegseth are not serious leaders, and they are not being nominated by Trump to strengthen the DOJ or DOD respectively. In fact, nominating Gaetz to be AG tells us exactly what Trump thinks about law and order.
Even with Republicans holding control of the Senate in the new term, many GOP lawmakers have expressed concerns over Trump's nomination, including Maine Senator Susan Collins.Didn’t see this one coming.
Barely broke 50% of the popular vote and as I listed above the vast majority of winners since '68 performed better in the EC. You can claim that's a mandate because he outperformed expectations but that doesn't make is so.He won the EC and was the first popular vote republican winner in 20 years. 4 million votes.
He got 40 percent of California. California. Pushed his performance double digits in NY. New Jersey only lost by 5.
Outperformed across all demos including the best republican performance with minorities ever.
Not only a mandate. A total ass kicking. And a majority of the left admits it.
The Country spoke louder than they have since Reagan.

I'm out of the business of the debating multiple topics each day on the Chat. I dropped in because I was curious to see the reaction to Matt Gaetz getting nominated for AG. It's heartening to see at least a few Trump voters question the nomination, as any reasonable person would.
People better familiarize themselves with Project 2025, because we are getting all of that and more. Gaetz at DOJ and Hegseth (really?) at DOD along with the proposed board to purge "underperforming" generals who fail the loyalty test are going to deliver exactly what I kept droning on about in so many of our discussions and it's not good.
Trump won fair and square. It's not a mandate, but he won and for anyone who was actually paying attention, his plans were perfectly clear. Now we all get to see what happens next.
Cheers.
Why do you think Trump keeps referencing the importance of recess appointments?Even with Republicans holding control of the Senate in the new term, many GOP lawmakers have expressed concerns over Trump's nomination, including Maine Senator Susan Collins.
"I was shocked at the nomination," Collins told Punchbowl News reporter Max Cohen.
"This is why the Senate's advise and consent process is so important," she added. "I'm sure that there will be many, many questions raised at Mr. Gaetz's hearing."
House Republicans appeared equally surprised at Gaetz's appointment. Nebraska Congressman Don Bacon told Punchbowl's Melanie Zanona: "I've got no good comment."
Ohio Congressman Max Miller told Axios reporter Juliegrace Burke on Wednesday that "Gaetz has a better shot at having dinner with Queen Elizabeth II than being confirmed by the Senate," referring to the late British royal who died in September 2022.
I'm sure you and Winnie the Poo are stoked about this guy being second in command of the most powerful military in the history of humanity.
1) I’m glad you posted the article, because it makes it incredibly clear that Matt Gaetz has never been and will not be charged or implicated in any sex trafficking or sexual assault charges.Matt's one of my favorite people. Used to get a lot of press around here and not for the right reasons.
Witnesses: Matt Gaetz attended drug-fueled parties with call girls at Seminole lobbyist’s home

This should be interesting. Popcorn is ready.
Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) rolled his eyes and Sens. Actually love the pick. And Trump is in charge of the military now thankfully not Harris.I'm sure you and Winnie the Poo are stoked about this guy being second in command of the most powerful military in the history of humanity.
Good times.
Definitely not interested in having a debate about what the word “mandate“ means, but usually, it’s referred to in presidential election cycles where you take both houses as well as the executive branch. If you add in the popular vote on top of that, most people consider that a mandateStop with the mandate talk. A 50.2% to 48.1% popular vote difference is not a mandate. Not what I was wanting as the AG pick...at all.I bet he has to pull his name. Way too radioactive
For some reason, I'm hearing the voice of Colin Powell warning Bush that if you break it, you own it. But of course, Trump's entire goal is to break down our institutions and reform them in a way that makes them entirely compliant to his wishes, so that example doesn't work at all.Actually love the pick. And Trump is in charge of the military now thankfully not Harris.
Someone totally outside of Pentagon politics that our heroes will love and respect? Check.
If he is smart (his resume suggests he is)….his lack of experience will be countered with an ability and willingness to listen to experienced people around him.
As someone else said, anyone who believed Kamala Harris was qualified is not qualified to call this guy unqualified. I love it.
Quite the 180 from existing staffing policy in our military.
I predict this guy is going to collect a ton of fans during confirmation hearings.
There are still over 7M votes left to include in the tally. He will win the popular vote but by a lot less than 4 million and he may not even hit 50% when it’s all done. He is at 50.2% with 15% of California still not tallied. He won the EC and was the first popular vote republican winner in 20 years. 4 million votes.

CNN data guru astonished by Trump's performance in cities: 'I would have never thought possible' — Fox News
CNN’s senior political data reporter spoke about how Trump won a massive and unexpected victory by winning over so many voters in some of America's most liberal cities.apple.news
For some reason I'm thinking those that abused the patriot act, submitted sworn docs to a secret court they knew weren't verifiable, used foreign intelligence agencies to spy on supporters of a POTUS candidate, spied on Congress, created a transcript of a phone call between a POTUS and foreign head of state and read the fraudulent account into the congressional record and on and on might be the ones that broke it.For some reason, I'm hearing the voice of Colin Powell warning Bush that if you break it, you own it. But of course, Trump's entire goal is to break down our institutions and reform them in a way that makes them entirely compliant to his wishes, so that example doesn't work at all.
Let's see who exactly is willing to sign up Trump's plan. The fact that Scott didn't get the Senate leadership role gives me a ray of hope, but only a ray.
Willing to give Hegseth a chance, highly educated and has seen combat. He is following someone (Austin) who I assumed would be ok but has been a disaster. Some generals , probably many are getting fired and I’m ok with that too. DOD needs to be shaken up as does DOJ. Just don’t want Gatez anywhere near powerMaybe it's due to the fact that his long-time best buddy and party pal Joel Greenberg is currently serving 11 years in prison for a litany of felonies including trafficking a minor and there is credible testimony that Gaetz was involved in some of Greenberg's shenanigans.

"Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard. "Didn’t see this one coming.
So the testimony that he was at the parties isn't confirmation. This story might be new to you, but people in town know he was there.1) I’m glad you posted the article, because it makes it incredibly clear that Matt Gaetz has never been and will not be charged or implicated in any sex trafficking or sexual assault charges.
It’s not even been confirmed he attended these gatherings.
If a friend of yours invited to a party at his house, and you did attend, that is absolutely not a crime. Obviously, I would expect higher moral standards from somebody who’s going to be Attorney General the unit states, but that is neither here nor there. The authorities concluded their investigation over a year ago, so I have no idea what the house could possibly still be investigating.
This Gif is going to get worn out over the next 4 years.
