Here's 2 Kirby Quotes on the QB position:
Quote A
“Well he showed great competitive character,” Smart said in an on-field interview with ESPN. “But he’s gotta play within our system and he’s gotta do what he’s coached to do, or you can’t win games. He didn’t get those opportunities until the defense stopped them. We were fortunate to stop them a couple times. He must play better if we expect to win the next one.”
Quote B
“He had probably eight or nine drops, and that’s hard on a quarterback. Psychologically, when you start a game and you have drops, sometimes it affects you. I’m not saying he played perfect, but I saw a third-and-four scramble where he put his life and body on the line and made an incredible play. I think he played pretty good. But everybody will look at stats and everybody will look at other things, and they’ll have things to say and we’ll keep on playing with [him]."
Quote A was about Stet after he put up this stat line vs OSU: 23-34 398 yards / 4 TDs / 1 Int / 1 fumble
Quote B was about CB after he put up this stat line vs Texas: 23-41 175 yards / 0 TDs / 3 Int
Kirby made similar comments about Beck after the Florida game. What this shows, to me, is that Kirby gets it. You can't coach each player the same way. Kirby understands he had to handle Stet a certain way and handle Beck a different way in order to get the best out of them. I don't think he was ever shy of getting in Stets face and losing it with him but with Carson, he puts his arms around him and looks to be encouraging him, despite playing worse than Stet ever did. Two different players. Two different approaches. My guess is they are both Kirby's way of trying to get the best out of each player. He's a damn good coach.
And yes, I selfishly wished he would have unloaded on Carson during the UF game for some of those throws, but that's why Kirby makes 13M and I'm typing about it on my computer. LOL
