Every single president from every single party has been running unsustainable deficits for decades.
I don't ever remember the Democrats shutting down the government in an effort to reduce spending or government power. Of course, both parties have enjoyed the orgy of spending and lack of a media that investigated and reported all of the waste, fraud, abuse and shady personal deals pols on both sides enjoyed for decades. We are either going to realize tribalism among the voters is going to break the nation and destroy liberty or we are going to find ourselves being closer to subjects than citizens.
That doesn't mean DJT shouldn't face tremendous scrutiny. He and everyone else that enjoys power over the people and the people's treasure should be aggressively scrutinized. Otoh, just because DJT proposes something doesn't make it the right path forward. It also doesn't make it wrong either and if you find yourself defending some of the folly DOGE has uncovered, you may want to rethink what you want from your government.
The problem with using tariffs as a revenue source is that they make the market smaller. There will be less trade, making revenue less than projections and they will slow the economy making income tax revenues decline. Reagan’s supply side economics was a better path. Lower income taxes to spur economic activity and increase revenue. Tariffs are the opposite of that.
