Long range US made / provided missiles ok to fire into Russian mainland?

I am not a defense wonk but I am first team all common sense. Why? Big believer in cost / benefit and risk / reward. Someone please tell me why it is a good idea to launch US missiles at a country whose leader controls more nukes than anyone on the planet….keeping in mind we have zero American lives or NATO countries fighting in this war.

My fear is that it will provide Putin with a justification to use a nuke against Ukraine if he feels like the war is getting out of hand and targets are being hit deep inside Russia.
Trump has stated that he would end the war so this might be Biden’s attempt to make that a much harder outcome.

All the super principled can’t let Putin get away with this folks are missing the point. No one thinks Putin is good. It is a simple question of risk / reward against an evil man with a million nukes. If the upside is feeling good and principled defending a non NATO country against a thug? We are playing with fire.

And the most ridiculous factor here is that there is at least a small element of folks who root their support for continuing the war in the interest of Ukraine beating Putin…..in their instinct gut reaction: “Putin / Trump are buddies. Get Putin”. It is ridiculous. This is bigger than petty bullshit domestic politics. And that goes for the warmongering republicans too. We can afford to threaten Iran because they can’t destroy the world. We cannot do that to Putin.

The only mistake Biden made is waiting so long to authorize the Ukraine to strike the Russians in their homeland. Obama endeared massive military funding and 20k troops to Poland and Eastern Europe 2 months before Trump took office to endear the future admin of Trump to the Ukrainian cause,...I remember because I was sent there in Poland,...

Yeah. Trump claimed in his debate that Hunter Biden made millions off China and Ukraine. Biden called him a liar.

Trump was correct. I didn’t see any fact-checking on that.

My comment stands, I see no need to provoke a man with enough nukes to destroy the world 2-3 times.
Putin is at fault and is the problem but you don’t wait 2 months from leaving office and then give Ukraine approval to use our missiles. Putin is a bad man and my fear is that we are just trying to antagonize him to the point that he uses nukes to make a point. He won’t go down without a fight.
