a two horse race for 12th place in the SEC between us and Tennessee. We are 5-13, as are the Vols, but we obviously have the tie breaker.
Alabama is in last place at 2-16. It's really something how bad they've become this year.... They weren't great the last two seasons under Mitch Gaspard, but they weren't anywhere near that bad either. We don't play Alabama and neither does Tennessee. It's hard to imagine Alabama passing either of us, and especially both.
The team directly above us in the standings in Missouri at 8-10. They have the tie breaker with us. It seems unrealistic that we'll be four games better than them the rest of the way, but you never know.
Everyone else in the SEC is at least .500 (9-9) or better.
I think our schedule is a little bit tougher than Tennessee's. We have:
Florida
@Kentucky
Miss State
@South Carolina
Tennessee has:
@Vanderbilt
Arkansas
@Kentucky
Missouri
Their's is no slouch, but I'd rather have what they have left than what we have. Each of the last two seasons, Tennessee has done what they needed to do on that last weekend to get into the SECT (sweeping Miss State in 2015 and taking 2 from us this past year).
On a different note, Stricklin said after the game on Saturday that the tech game Tuesday night is the most important game of the year for us. I don't disagree, given where we are. It sounds like the attitude that we took in 2010 and 2013... sometimes that's the last "real" thing to play for. We're going to throw Kevin Smith at the jackets. Andrew Gist had that great start over at their place last year. Hopefully Kevin can do something similar. This isn't a great or even good tech team, but they're in a similar boat as us now in really needing to win that in-state series. Should be a good one on the flats tomorrow night. I guess the team will have to leave a bit earlier to get around the I-85 closure.... It sounds like they're well ahead of schedule in getting that bridge rebuilt... I sure hope so....
