I just wanted to let you all know that HSD got to come home last Wednesday from the hospital. However 36 hours and a fight later we had to come back. He didn’t want to come back at all. He was running a high fever and was very confused, couldn’t even complete a sentence without forgetting what he was trying to say.
I brought him back to CTCA and they determined he had aspiration pneumonia and fluid on the outside of his right lung. They admitted him back into the hospital around 10am. And by 2PM he was back in the ICU. He was very altered in his mental status and his heart rate and respiratory rate was extremely high. They re inserted a chest tube on Friday night to drain the fluid and transfused 2 more units of blood. On Saturday to give his body a rest the decided the it would be best for him if the put him on the ventilator. That was around noon. It was the right call as he was able to rest and his stats returned to a normal rate.
They discovered that he had a leak in his esophagus where the repair was done as well. Dr Miller came in Sunday and went back in and placed a stent to seal the leak and the clean out the infection in the chest cavity. The blood cultures came back and he has strep as well as a rare bacterial infection in his blood (like they see one case every 20 years rare).
The took him off the vent Tuesday around 4pm. His stats have stayed up and his white blood count and hemoglobin are great so the meds are fighting the infections. They will do a swallow test tomorrow to see if he can have anything to eat or drink. Prayers he passed that test. Oh and his feeding tube is blocked. Checking that out today. He just can’t catch a break.
We don’t know exactly when He will get out this time, it will hopefully be Saturday or Sunday. Please continue to pray for your fellow Dawg. God bless you all.
