UGA SPORTS SPOTLIGHT:

I’m gonna mention a Dawg great in the UGA sports spotlight section this morning, just to make sure at least something Dawg is mentioned today in this “DAWGChat” forum…Today the Georgia Bulldog in the spotlight is former Dawg Lineman Herb St John………

Herb St. John
January 17, 1926 - 2011
From: Perry, GA
Year Inducted into Georgia Sports Hall of Fame: 2008

Football

· Only one of two Bulldog football players to earn all-SEC honors in all four years of his career (1944-1947)

· First team All-American on the 1946 SEC championship team

· Selected into the University of Georgia's Circle of Honor (2004)

· Signed by Branch Rickey to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers of the All America Football Conference (1948)

· All-state tackle for Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville, FL (1942-1943)

He was the High School football coach at Perry when I was playing football at Washington County in the mid 1960s…….Then, years later, our crowd tail-gated in the railroad parking lot at UGA football games……Coach St John tailgated near us at the home games……He was a gentleman every time I talked with him…..

TODAY’S @$$HOLE OF THE DAY:
1hh5qj.jpg

I have received a suggestion for an AOTD, and it’s different….It’s an unknown AOTD……..And it’s a true story about a dog named Lucky, who is disabled…..I’m substituting John Doe for the owners name…….Here it is in his words:

“It takes a very specific type of person to steal from the disabled. It takes an even more specific person to steal from animals. And it takes the most specific person in the world to steal from disabled animals. The anonymous thief in this story is exactly that type of “specific,” which is actually a code word for “horrible.”

It's a terribly sad story. John Doe, Lucky's owner, had removed the wheelchair from Lucky after a day of play and left it in the front yard. When he came back, it was gone. Feeney believes that the person who stole his dog's wheelchair "knew what they were doing".

And they'd have to, it's a freaking wheelchair customized for a dog for god's sake. What would that person use it for? Luckily, not all people are assholes who steal wheelchairs from disabled animals, HandicappedPets.com has donated a new wheelchair for Lucky and it seems like he likes it a lot.

18mfrsgkbcoisjpg.jpg

The anonymous AOTD can KMA as I’m anointing him or her @$$Hole of the Day……It takes a real POS to steal the wheelchair from a disabled dog……

Thx to my fellow Dawg friend for submitting this sad story with a happy ending…….I sure do wish they would catch the thief though……

**************************************

Message to all: I think it only appropriate that you folks join in on the fun of crowning an AOTD…….In fact, I’m inviting each of you to do so…….Just give me the AOTD candidate’s name, and 2,3,4 paragraphs stating your case why he/she is an @$$Hole…….Send it by UGASports mail…….I’m anxiously awaiting your participation……And, it would help me out…..Thx, redclayhound…….

As always folks, I hope each of you have a Great Bulldawg Day.......GATA.....THWGT......MAGA......Go Dawgs......God Bless........

Bravo. Well done, rch.

1953, we lose Amos and Andy...and George Floyd wasn't even born yet.
What a great show. Always thought is should have been named "George Stevens dupes Andrew H Brown".

1825, the cornerstone is laid for Fort Hamilton. Lots of excitement there as that is the starting line on Staten Island for the New York City Marathon.

A great and interesting read, rch. I wish they'd catch that low life scum who stole that poor dog's wheelchair and put him on trial before a jury of PETA women. I enjoyed the Ramblings.

Al Franken would be a worthy AOTD.

I don't know DDD.......these things are a lot of work for only 3 responses......hey, it don't break my heart that there are no more responses to these posts, but the message I'm getting is only a handful of folks are interested the contents......I can move on to other things if need be......

I believe I had Al Franken crowned for AOTD already.......I'll need to check it out.....

This deteriorating board is too busy worrying and arguing to stop and have a little fun. Not very long ago there was very little arguing and a nice sense of community, a lot of fun and good humor. We all know what changed it.

Your post is my favorite post on the board everyday. Every day I read it and learn something, hear good music, enjoy pictures, and get where I just want to tar & feather the AOTD.

Don't think the StudVent interlopers learn something like I do, they already know everything. They also like just about every AOTD.

Thank you for your efforts. I understand what you're saying though.

Well said and agree completely. There is little interest in lighthearted fun here anymore. We are overrun with VERY serious people who take themselves VERY seriously. I feel sorry for their dogs. They call this place and its denizens ugly names, especially behind our backs on the Vent, yet they never go away. It makes little sense.

Judge, DDD, We'll see......I honestly enjoy putting these things together everyday......I too learn things everyday......The only drawback to posting one daily is it's time consuming......With dialysis three days a week, time is something I have very little of......I appreciate the encouragement and thanks Judge, DDD, Eufaula, Vandy, give me daily.......Let's see what the future of this board brings......Right now it's going South in a hurry.......

Do what feels good to you. You don't owe your friends anything.
If you post this daily, it's always enjoyed. If you post it sometimes, it's a treat. My mother only made cherry cobbler occasionally.

Great advice. I know that you can assemble a post in a word document, then copy and paste to a post, and then add pictures. Maybe that would spread out the workload. JLD is right, if you post it sometimes it would still be a treat. Maybe change the date system from "this day" to "this week" in history.
