that we really play to our competition.
That Rider team that took 2/3 from us in Athens followed up their series win by getting swept and outscored 32-6 at Radford. College of Charleston is now sitting at 8-12 after losing a home series to Kent State and getting swept at home by Nebraska. UAB is a respectable 13-7. We scored 4 runs all weekend against them. That's the same that Creighton put up against their healthy pitching staff on opening weekend. Georgia Southern just dropped a series to our friends from South Alabama and sits at 10-9 on the season.
But then we go to Baton Rouge and after being blown out on Friday night, managed to stay in the game Saturday and Sunday (although I agreed with the broadcast Sunday that the game could have been much more lopsided in LSU's favor).
Stricklin made the point on the post game show that we aren't doing the "little things" and that's why we aren't winning. I agree with that, but my question is, at this point, how capable are we of doing those "little things"? We've been at this for a month now.... I can't say that we've gotten any better than we were for that College of Charleston weekend. We still walk too many hitters, we still have defensive lapses, we still go into long funks offensively. I appreciate the fact that we showed up and battled on Saturday and Sunday in Baton Rouge. It takes more than that to win, though, and I wonder if we are able to execute to a level to bridge that gap.
