For me last season, I was confident because I thought we had one of the best returning QBs. He ended up being good but not special and the receivers and blocking were so inconsistent.
But because we had won 2 national championships and only lost one regular season game the season before, I figured the other positions were at minimum good if not great just based off our system and a great QB would make the difference. Oops
Fast fwd and last season was not what I expected. We had lots of cracks and flaws and our first half efforts in games looked more like a team outside the top 25 than within it. That said, we had some very good second halves. We persevered more times than not. But at the end of the day, I don't think anyone thinks we had the BEST team last season. If anything our defense in those two Texas games was the most elite we played but they also got killed by bama, Ole miss, tech etc for long parts of games.
This season, are we relying on defensive pressure and havoc, or dominate run defense and bend don't break? Special teams, running game, passing game? Maybe we can get it done with just a bunch of really good units and nothing exceptional?
My question though is where will we lean on the team to get us a championship? Is it the staff? If so, based on this board we should go like 7-5.
I am a homer, so I hope we have some hidden gems, and or hope our coaching knows the answer but I don't see us having a top 1-3 unit at any position for sure.
My best guess is, we make the playoffs with some losses likely 2 and HOPE someone or some, someones on the team emerge by the time of playoffs and we are healthy.
Would love to see Frazier become a top rb in the nation...possible. Or some defensive player become the next Roquan, Carter, etc
Your thoughts?
